Cockroaches are possibly the most common indoor pests. The worst thing is that they are very hard to kill completely. This is partly because these pests preserve their eggs well. Even with insecticides, the cockroach eggs can easily survive.
In the USA, people are most familiar with the German cockroach as it is quite common. This particular species is attracted to environments that are warm and humid, and they will also reproduce quickly if they can access food. You should note that these insects are not just a nuisance in living spaces. They also spread several bacteria, meaning you might end up contracting some diseases if you don’t kill the pests.
I’m an entomologist, so people often ask me about how to get rid of cockroaches. It is crucial to note that any extermination effort must target the eggs, in addition to the live cockroaches. In case you are unable to eliminate them, the oothecae are going to restart the roach problem. This short guide will help you understand how to get rid of these annoying insects and how to kill cockroaches’ eggs. Also, I will give you a comprehensive answer to the question: What do cockroaches eggs look like?
Do Cockroaches Lay Eggs?
Yes, they do. The egg marks the first stage in their lifecycle, after which they will go through the nymph stage, then mature into adults. They don’t go through a roach larvae stage. The eggs are carried in capsules that get harder as they age. The hardened shell helps to protect the roach from predators and other elements.
How many babies do roaches have?
Cockroaches never lay single eggs. In a single setting, a female cockroach can lay 10 to 60 eggs, and these will be subjected to an incubation period of between 24 and 215 days. German cockroaches typically lay 30 to 40 eggs in single settings.
So, how many roaches in an egg? A roach egg will only contain a single cockroach, but this does not do much to ease the already dire situation. Even with a single cockroach egg sack, you can potentially have 60 new roaches to deal with. On average, males have shorter lifespans compared to female ones. Females can live for two years. If you locate the oothecae within your living space, you are likely to have a serious roach problem.
What Do Cockroaches Eggs Look Like?
There is a popular misconception that cockroach eggs cannot be seen with the naked eye. It cannot be further from the truth. Others have the wrong idea about the appearance of these sacks, and that can affect the efficiency of their extermination strategy.
The cockroach eggs size ranges from 5 to 13 mm, and they have a brown to dark color. German cockroach eggs are easy to differentiate from American cockroach eggs. The German ones are small, narrow, and less dark. American cockroach eggs are almost black. These characteristics refer to the cockroach egg case.
Oriental cockroach eggs have a red to brown color, and the oothecae look more inflated than those of other species. An ootheca of an oriental cockroach will usually carry about 16 eggs, and these are lined up vertically in the sack. The best way to learn the differences between these oothecae is by taking a look at some pictures of cockroach eggs.
With an average infestation, you will not be able to see the eggs since they are stored in corners and other locations of the house. If you spot a cockroach egg in an open area, you can be certain that you have a serious infestation.
How Long Does it Take for Roach Eggs to Hatch?
A female cockroach will typically lay a new set of eggs every six weeks. These eggs take about four weeks to hatch into baby cockroaches. I should mention that eggs of German roaches hatch faster than American and Oriental cockroach eggs. American eggs can take 8 weeks to hatch. A female American roach will lay more eggs in their lifetime, and they also tend to live longer than German roaches. In optimal conditions, an American cockroach can live for three to four years.
Where Do Cockroaches Lay Eggs?
You may spot a cockroach now and then in your house, but locating the eggs is usually difficult. That’s because they are deposited in dark and concealed spots like cracks and the back of pictures. Some common areas you should check include under the sink, near pipes, and underdrawers. The oothecae are usually camouflaged, so you have to look thoroughly. The eggs are attached to the surfaces they are deposited on. This is done with some sticky substance, and that means you cannot remove the eggs by just scratching the surface.
Female cockroaches also like to deposit their eggs near pieces of food since the baby cockroaches have to find their food when they hatch. You should also note that many roaches carry the oothecae till they hatch. Sometimes, the eggs will even hatch while being carried by the female roaches.
There are a few signs that can help you determine how close a deposit of cockroach eggs is. These include:
Shed skin. If you notice that a particular spot in your house has many shed skins, you can almost be sure that a cockroach egg is close by. It can also indicate where the roaches like to hide and will make it easier for you to exterminate them.
Roach feces.Droppings of roaches look like small black spots. If you notice that there is a concentration of roach droppings in a particular part of the house, you should scan the surroundings thoroughly. This is because the eggs may be close by.
A strong and musty smell. It is a well-known fact that cockroaches smell. Their eggs emit a musty smell, so you can look out for that as well.
Which is the Best Way to Kill Roaches and Eggs?
Cockroaches reproduce fast, and a few can easily create a big population with quick reproduction. A single ootheca that is ignored during the extermination process may hatch into 50 roaches, and that is more than enough to restart the problem. You need to get rid of every single roach and all the eggs in the house otherwise, your efforts will not have lasting results.
Fortunately, there are some ways of killing cockroaches along with their eggs. Make sure you apply these methods correctly as you don’t want to spend time and still end up where you started.
Many of the usual methods used to kill roaches do not affect the eggs. If a female roach dies while carrying the ootheca, the eggs can still hatch. It mostly happens if the eggs were close to hatching when the female roach died. The eggs will also survive if they are not crushed when the mother is killed.
1. I can recommend using roach baits. These are poisons developed to attract roaches. They kill them over time. The baits are carried to the hiding spots of the roaches and are shared with other members of the population. This way, every roach in the population will get poisoned and will die over time. If there are eggs in the place, the first meal the baby roaches will eat will be poison, so they won’t be much of a problem.
2. If you can locate them, you can crush the eggs with a shoe. It should be done with a lot of strength since there is a chance that the eggs can hatch outside the ootheca. This should also be the case when crushing pregnant cockroaches. Also, you should dispose of the crushed eggs and roaches properly. In case they still manage to hatch, they should be as far away from your house as possible. The one downside of this strategy is that it is hard to find a cockroach egg in the house.
3. Another effective method is using insect growth regulators. These are chemicals that cause the roaches to become sterile, and that can put an end to the cycle of reproduction. Insect growth regulators can be quite effective at killing roach eggs. With these chemicals, the only way roaches can grow their population in your home would be by inviting new roaches. If you make your house less conducive to roaches, the entire population will die out over time. For a better effect, you can also combine insect growth regulators with other methods that kill the roaches directly.
4. Sprays are highly inefficient when dealing with insect eggs. They are meant to kill roaches on contact, but they can only destroy one roach at a time. In many cases, a pregnant roach will still leave healthy offspring after they are killed by this method.
Conclusion
Cockroaches lay many eggs in a single setting, and they also lay eggs frequently. It means it can be a challenge to control their fast-growing populations. To ensure you get rid of all the roaches in your house or workplace, you will need to target the eggs, as well as the roaches already living in your space. Effective methods to achieve this include using insect growth regulators and baits.
To determine how serious your infestation is, you will need to identify roach eggs. Looking at some roach eggs images may help, but you should remember that the eggs of different types of cockroaches look different.
Do you have any experience dealing with roach eggs? Are there any mistakes you have made when exterminating roaches from your space? Let us know in the comments below.
When you see a cockroach crawling in your home does it suggest there is a cockroach invasion? No, when you spot a roach in your kitchen, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is an infestation, and neither it means your home is not tidy enough. You can accidentally introduce cockroaches to your home through cardboard boxes, shoes, or appliances if they came from an area infested with roaches.
One sure way to suggest roaches have invaded your house is in case there is cockroach poop. If you notice lots of cockroach feces around your house, then it is a sure sign these pests have infested your place.
But what does roach poop look like? And how can you distinguish it from other pests poop?
Well, I have specialized in both urban and agricultural pests, and I will use my expertise to help you handle these pests. So read on to learn more about cockroach droppings identification, where to find roach poop in your house, how to clean roach feces, as well as the effects of ingesting roach poop.
How Do Cockroach Feces Look Like?
Roach droppings have the same deep brown color regardless of their species. However, most of these feces differ in size based on the type and size of the pest.
Generally, smaller cockroaches leave behind feces that resemble ground coffee or pepper. In some cases, their feces may look like stains. The German cockroach is an example of small roaches that drop such feces.
Bigger roaches such as American cockroach, popularly known as the palmetto bug, produce bigger feces. Their poop resembles large solid crystals, almost the size of a grain of rice. Their feces also have rounded ends and ridges that run across the ends.
You can easily confuse feces of large cockroaches with rat’s droppings. As you may notice on cockroach poop pictures, roach’s feces have rounded ends while mice feces have sharp ends. Besides, the mice poop does not have ridges. You can use a magnifying glass to see these differences.
Difference Between Roach Poop and Other Pests
Below, I will describe in what way cockroach droppings differ from various pests poop. To take active measures against pests intrusion into your home, you must identify them. The best way to do that is by identifying their poop.
Roach Poop vs Mouse Poop
Cockroach poop looks similar to mouse feces. The difference is very minimal that you can’t easily tell them apart. So how do you differentiate roach poop vs mouse poop?
The major difference between the two is that roach droppings have ridges crossing from one end to the other while mouse feces have no ridges. Also, mouse droppings may have short hairs and are slightly larger. These differences can easily be visible on roach poop images.
Palmetto Bug Poop or Cockroach Poop
Palmetto Bug refers to large roach species and beetles. Mostly people use this term when referring to the American cockroach. So in this context, we will use the Palmetto Bug poop to mean feces from the large roach species.
Palmetto bug poop has a solid shape similar to a cylinder, and it is black or brown with ridges running across the sides. Smaller roaches, on the other hand, have smaller droppings in the form of coarse coffee grains that are black or brown.
If your house has been infested by roaches, identifying and cleaning up cockroach feces is important for your family’s health. Here are some steps you should follow when cleaning.
Wear Protective Gear
Since cockroach droppings are dangerous, you need to wear protective gear before you get down to work. You should have a respirator or wear a protective face mask to prevent exposure to airborne allergens. Make sure you also have a pair of gloves to prevent direct contact with the poop. This will prevent any infestation.
Vacuum
The first cleaning step is to vacuum the place. This will get rid of all the loose droppings. Ensure you vacuum all areas where you can find cockroaches. Some of these places include cabinets, kitchens, appliances, open containers, and refrigerators, among others.
Clean the Surfaces
Once you’re done vacuuming, you should clean all the surfaces next. Clean all places where you think the cockroaches might be by using water and soap solution. This solution should be enough to remove all allergens, but you can also use disinfectants to kill germs.
There are common household items you should clean to prevent disease that may result from roach feces. These items include mattresses, carpets, and clothing. These pests are more likely to poop on heavy jackets and other heavy clothes. Be sure to clean the stains earlier because old stains are very difficult to remove.
If you have carpets, especially heavy rugs, then you need to clean them thoroughly. It’s best to use a mixture of dishwashing soap and vinegar to thoroughly get rid of the stains.
When cleaning the mattress, you should focus on the folds and cracks. This is where poop can be found.
Where You Can Find Roach Poop
Do cockroaches leave droppings? Well, they do. Usually, roaches have no specific place to poop. Since some roaches fly, you are likely to find their feces anywhere in the house. However, to ensure your home is spotlessly clean, you must know areas where you are likely to find the most cockroach excrement.
Mostly, roach excrement can be found in areas near their nests and places where they can get food. This means that the kitchen is one of the areas you should expect to get most of the droppings. Other areas you are most likely to find their droppings include cabinets, shelves, drawers, underneath equipment like dryers, toilets, refrigerators, as well as near drain pipes.
It is advisable to identify roach feces in time because if the droppings are left to accumulate, they can attract more cockroaches into your home. The odor they produce attracts other roaches.
You can also place baits and pesticides near the droppings to get rid of roaches. This is because the feces attract other roaches, so there is a high likelihood that they will eat from the bait if you place it near their droppings.
How to Tell if You Have an Infestation
It is difficult to investigate if you have an infestation because you can rarely see roaches during the day. Being nocturnal, these pests only come out at night to look for food.
There are several ways to tell whether there is an infestation, with one of them being the presence of abundant roach feces. The presence of roach exoskeletons is another sign of infestation. You may see these exoskeletons in areas where they defecate or in places near food. The exoskeletons come about when the nymphs undergo transition when growing up. They shed the exoskeleton to accommodate the increasing body size.
Are They Dangerous?
Even in small amounts, roach feces can spread diseases. Cockroaches are very filthy insects that crawl inside toilets, garbage, and sewage. These pests do not produce poison, but they are acting as hosts to pathogens. They carry these disease-causing germs like salmonella in their digestive tract, and then they are passed out through their poop and transmitted to humans. When ingested, the poop can make you sick.
Also, studies have shown that roach droppings trigger asthma and allergy symptoms like coughing and wheezing. The feces contain allergens that are airborne and can easily get into someone’s respiratory tract and increase the severity of asthma.
When in large numbers, cockroaches produce an odor which, in addition to being unpleasant, contains chemicals that trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks. Further research shows that children who get exposed to cockroach droppings from an early age are more likely to develop asthma later.
What if You Accidentally Eat Roach Feces?
Cockroaches harbor diseases like salmonella in their digestive tract, which get carried through the feces. Since cockroaches do not have a specific area to defecate, they end up dropping their waste anywhere, including on the food we eat. If you have roaches in your home, there is a high chance of ingesting cockroach excrement.
If you accidentally eat roach feces, you may fall sick. Roaches spread various types of diseases. You can contract any disease being carried by the cockroach.
Prevent Cockroach Infestation with Early Roach Poop Identification
Cockroach feces is one of the signs of roach infestation. Proper cockroach droppings identification is, therefore, the best way to prevent an infestation from getting out of hand.
If left to increase, roach poop can cause several health problems for your family. Roach poor causes different types of diseases and is an allergen that can increase the severity of asthma. Roach feces identification also allows you to use the right cleaning techniques to keep your home tidy and safe.
After reading this article, identifying roach excrement should now be easier. Never confuse cockroach droppings with mouse feces. Be sure to get rid of these waste immediately you spot them to prevent bigger problems. Have you had any experience dealing with roach infestation? Humans and animals cohabit the environment so that they benefit one another. For example, humans plant flowers that provide nectar for bees while they, in turn, help in pollination and producing honey.
However, when the bees come in large numbers, they may soon become a bother. You and your family may be uncomfortable around them because of all the buzzing noise and even stinging that hurts a lot. Therefore, it is good to be aware of how to keep bees away whenever you do not need them around.
I have lived in an environment with bees for quite a long time, and I understand all the dynamics of them. I know the various types of bees and the different methods that can be used to keep them away. Therefore, I am compiling this review for anyone who is looking for ways to get rid of bees naturally.

How to Identify Different Types of Bees
Before using homemade remedies to kill bees, first, identify the type that you are dealing with because they are not the same. There are four main types of bees, and they include bumblebees, honey, carpenter, and ground. Each of them has special features that you will find out below.
Bumblebee
If there was a prize for working hard, bumblebees would win every year. They have large bodies that can grow up to four centimeters. The size of their bodies enables these bees to be the best pollinators. They simply use their large body size to vibrate on flowers, hence making them release pollen that then leads to the production of more fruits on plants.
However, these bees do not produce as much honey as the type known as honeybees. But despite this, you will need them around you if you want to benefit from pollination more than honey. Their bodies are hairy, and they often build hives in dry areas such as parks.
Carpenter Bees
Just as their name suggests, these bees are like carpenters because they love wood. They usually make a nest in the woods. As a result, carpenter beesare considered destructive because they disfigure wood in the process of creating a habitat for themselves. They are of yellow and black colors, and their looks are similar to bumblebees. Some species have a dark blue coloring.
Honeybee
These bees are the most commonly kept by farmers because they are the biggest producers of honey. The main characteristic of honeybees is that they do not move a lot. Mostly, they live within three hundred feet from their nest.
Honeybees have a small body size, and once they sting you, they die. They die because they lose their stinger, which attaches them to you once they sting you. Hence, it is important to be able to live with these bees to ensure that you do not hurt one another.
Ground Bees
Ground bees are less harmful compared to the other types. Usually, they do not sting unless under a lot of pressure. Therefore, if you have these bees in your compound, you may leave them alone as they will not hurt anyone. You will easily identify these bees by the mounds that they form on the soil, as this is their favorite place.
Bees vs. Wasps vs. Hornets
Wasps and hornets are similar to bees. Hence, it is very important to differentiate these insects so that you do not mistake one for the other. Wasps are different from bees in that they have more predator characteristics. A wasp is more likely to sting you than a bee.
A wasp is also not as gigantic as a bee. Their heads are thinner than those of bees, and unlike bees that have yellow and black color, wasps have one color. Therefore, if you are careful, it is easy to differentiate these two types of insects.
Hornets, on the other hand, are more dangerous than bees because they are more likely to sting you or any other person who disturbs their habitat. They have white and black stripes around their bodies, hence making them easy to identify. Wasps are also similar to carpenter bees because they are fond of chewing wood until it becomes paper pulp. The next time a stinging insect moves around you, you should be able to tell whether it is a bee, hornet, or wasp.
Why You Need to Find the Best Way to Get Rid of Bees
Whether you have reached a point where you want to desperately get rid of the bees roaming around or not, here is why you should consider taking this action.
Allergies
Some people are allergic to bees, while others are not. If you are lucky, you may be aware of whether you or a family member has a bee allergy. However, most people do not realize it until they find themselves in the emergency room because of a bee sting.
The individuals who are allergic to bees usually get stung by these insects, and when this happens, their skin swells in an extraordinary manner. The swelling does not go away within a few hours or a day as it would for the non-allergic individuals.
These people have to be subjected to numerous tests to find out the type of bee venom that the insect released on their bodies so that the doctors may give the right prescription. While undertaking these tests, you may be stressed wondering whether you will get healed or not.
Other people may also be worried about you. Therefore, instead of risking to get stress, depression, loss of time, and money because of bees, it is better to get rid of them as soon as possible.
Stings
Bees are dangerous because of their stings. If they sense that you are interfering with their environment, they get extremely aggressive and will sting you. If you are an adult, the pain may be bearable despite the discomfort.
However, if you have a child or a pet, the stings may cause a lot of trouble. First, the child may cry endlessly because of the pain and the inability to manage it. It may be traumatic for the child and the pet because either way, you have to drive them to the hospital or vet.
Damages to the Environment
Bees are not only harmful to human beings and pets. Even if they carry out pollination, they also can destroy the environment; hence this makes it hard to live with them in the same compound. For example, as I already discussed above, carpenter bees love building their nests in wood. Thus, once these bees attack your wooden house, they may cause many troubles and losses.
Holes in wood made by carpenter bees
Ground bees, on the other hand, may interfere with the soil around your home, hence damaging the beauty and look of your lawn garden. If bees such as bumble build nests around your home, the rot and molds that follow the death of these nests may be horrifying to see and even to think about. Thus, you should get rid of these insects if you want to live a peaceful life.
How to Get Rid of a Beehive from Your Compound
There are many ways of getting rid of bees. Some methods are natural, while others are not. Therefore, you need to be sure of the final result that you want before selecting a technique. Do you want them gone forever, or do you want them to stay but without bothering you and your family? Find out the best technique for you, choose the one from the following methods.
How to Get Rid of Bees in House – Call a Beekeeper
Have you ever thought that you can approach bees without causing harm to one another? This is what professional beekeepers do. They help you get rid of the insects without eradicating them. If you live in an area that has a lot of bees, it may be easy to find a beekeeper from the neighborhood.
You may be asking, what will the beekeeper do? First, the aim of a beekeeper is to get the insects alive. If you have a place within your compound where you would like to maintain the insects, the keeper will do exactly what you want. Also, if you are not interested in keeping the bees, the beekeeper will take them away and find them a new home.
A beekeeper will get the honeycombs from your house safely while ensuring that the female bee does not get agitated. Once he or she can transfer the honeycombs to a new hive with the female inside, the rest of the bees will follow suit automatically.
How to Kill Bees Using Spray
If you are willing to get rid of bees from your compound completely, then you may consider spraying the insects. Remember, insecticides from the hardware in your neighborhood will kill the bees in yard. Therefore, you should consider this alternative only if you are completely sure that you do not want to see them in your compound ever again.
Sprays are more effective during the night than during the day. Therefore, if you are planning to exterminate a hive near your residence, you need to plan on how to execute your plan when it is dark. It is advisable to use a red flashlight when going about your plans at night because bees are said not to be able to see this color.
That means that you can see the insects, but they cannot see you; hence, you will be able to spray them efficiently. Also, when spraying, it is important to know that the opening of the hive is the most important part that you should concentrate on. Once you spray the opening, check the following day whether the bees are all dead.
If you notice some activity near the hive, you should apply the spray again after two to three days. Repeat this process until you are completely sure that all the insects are dead. And when you are sure, you may then carry out the next step, which is the removal of the hive from your compound.
The elimination of the hive is the last step and the happiest because it means that you have been successful in killing the bees. They will no longer be a bother to you or the people you love. But there are things you should note when using sprays.
The first one is that you must read the instructions on the spray package. Not all sprays work equally, and each may be effective on a different type of hive. Therefore, you need to be sure that the spray you are getting will be efficient for the job.
Another point you need to note is that various sprays may kill different types of bees. That means that a spray that is efficient on honeybees may not work the same on ground bees. If you are not sure about the bees in your compound, it may be necessary to involve a professional.
The expert will identify the type of bee and help you select the best spray. It should be a spray that will not cause harm to people and the animals living in your compound.
Use Powder (Dust) to Kill Bees
If you are allergic to bee stings, you may also want to eliminate them using powder. The powder works similar to spray because it also kills the bees. You should seek help from the pesticide shop near you so that you may select an effective powder. Different powders work on various types of insects. Hence, you need one that is good at keeping away bees for good.
When applying powder in the beehive, you need to take precautionary measures. First, you need to use gloves to handle the powder.

The next thing you need is a helmet to help you approach the beehive without risking stings. Finally, you need to wear long socks to protect your open skin from bee stings.
Get Rid of Bees with Vinegar from Your Kitchen Shelf
If there are many bees in your home, you may be confused and want to eliminate them urgently. Like any other living thing, they need water to survive. Hence, it may be efficient to chase them away by putting vinegar in water and placing it near the area with bees.
Vinegar is a natural repellent for many insects, and since it does not kill the insects, it is good if you want to maintain a functional ecosystem. So, how do you exterminate bees using vinegar? It is very simple, and anyone in the family can do it. You simply need to add a few drops of vinegar in water, and then place the cans of water on the lawn.
Ensure that the animals in your compound cannot drink the water with vinegar because it may cause problems for them. The solution is meant only to repel bees. Once you place the cans strategically in the garden and also around your house, bees will naturally leave your place and search for a new home.
You may also spray bees using the vinegar mixture instead of placing it at various points and waiting for the bees to come. The vinegar spray makes it impossible for the bees to fly, and it may sometimes lead to their death.
If you want the mixture to be more effective, you need to add some soap to the mixture of water and vinegar. The soap makes the solution more efficient because it breaks the density of water. Hence, once bees fly around the solution, they may drown. And if you spray them with the solution, they may suffocate and die.
How to Prevent Bees Using Traps
Killing bees nests using chemicals is not the best solution, especially if you have other things in your compound that may be damaged by the spray. For example, if the bees have built a hive around your kitchen garden, it may be dangerous to spray insecticides as they may end up in your vegetables. In such a case, traps may be more preferable to use.
You can make a homemade trap or buy it if you are not in a position to design one. You need a bottle that can hold numerous bees, for example, one that can carry two liters. Design the top of the trap so that it can allow bees to enter the bottle easily but not be able to come out. This means the bottom should be broad while the top is narrow but not too small.
Once you have finished designing the bottle, the next thing you need is to fill it with a sweet solution. Note that bees prefer natural sweetness to processed one. Therefore, you cannot use a lot of sugar or honey as your mixture. Think about a solution that will taste like nectar, which bees like.
If you fill the bottle with the solution, you should know that it will trap the bees and drown them. Therefore, if there are only a few bees bothering you, and you don’t want to kill them, do not fill the whole bottle with the solution. Just put a substantial amount on the bottom of the bottle.
Once you catch the bees, you may release them into the wild wherever you want. You may also buy a readymade trap and just fill it with the desired solution. It will save you a lot of time thinking about how to create one.
Package Including: 2 x Wasp Trap with Nylon Cord, 1 x User Manual, 1 x Mail Box
Target Spcies: Bee
However, if the bees that are bothering you are too many, you may spend a lot of money buying readymade traps to place at different points in your compound. Making the traps by yourself may be cost-saving, although it may take a lot of time.
How to Make Bees Go Away Using Zappers
Electric bug zappers are another option for exterminating any type of bees. However, if you are looking for how to get rid of bees without killing them, this method may not be for you. Zappers attract insects and kill them.
Bug zappers are similar to electric lamps. However, they emit ultraviolet rays that attract bees and any other bugs that may be bothering you within the homestead. Zappers are effective at night because insects can spot the light in the darkness. It has metal grids that are big enough to fit most insects.
Once a bee is drawn to the zapper, it gets near the light and is then electrocuted by the ultraviolet rays. The disadvantage is that the zapper kills the insects. Also, it may not be very efficient in enabling you to get rid of the bees at night. Bees usually hide in their hive during darkness; hence, it is rare for them to come out and see the light.
Item Dimensions LxWxH: 17.28 x 13.54 x 2.09 inches
Number of Pieces: 2
Target Species: Fly, Mosquito, Spider, Wasp
Is Electric: Yes
Experts also claim that zappers are not the best because they end up killing the beneficial pests. For example, honeybees, which are rare and very useful for the environment. Therefore, it should be the last option that you select if you are desperately in need of a solution to the bee menace in your yard.
How to Keep Bees Away Using Bee Repellent
Although I have discussed some bee repellents such as the sweet solution, there are others that naturally get rid of bees without hurting the insects. These other techniques also do not require much effort; hence they are time-saving.
1. One of the repellents that you can use is cucumbers. Get many cucumbers and cut them into small circular shapes. Place the circular-shaped cucumbers on an aluminum surface and place it at a strategic point. The cucumbers and the aluminum surface react so that they can repel bees. The combination emits a scent that keeps bees away naturally.
You may also use cucumbers in another way. That is by peeling them and placing these peels on the windows. Bees hate the smell that the peels emit; hence, they will not come near your house. And you will also benefit because the cucumbers bring a sense of freshness in your home.
2. Peppermint is another natural bee repellent. The sure way of using peppermint is by planting it around your home. The scent that peppermint emits is so strong that it keeps away bees and other small bugs that may be a bother to you. You may plant some around your house to prevent bees from coming near. This way, you will always be confident that your family is secure inside the house.
Some individuals are not that much into farming. Hence, they may find it hard to plant peppermint around. If you are one of them, don’t worry. There is still another way of using peppermint. Purchase some peppermint oil and dip pieces of cotton wool in it and then place them at various points in your home.

Frequently Asked Questions on How to Get Rid of Bees Nest
You need to be able to answer a few questions before finding a method of killing or repelling bees. These questions may help you in selecting the best method of dealing with the insects. They may also save you a lot of time and the cost of professional bee removal. Below are some of the frequently asked questions on this issue.
Are bees endangered?
Bees, especially honeybees, are endangered. Climate change and the use of pesticides in agriculture pose a threat to these beneficial insects. Pesticides kill the insects and prevent them from carrying out pollination, which is their main task when feeding on nectar from plants.
Climate change, on the other hand, has made the environment inhabitable for these insects. Hence, there is a need to protect this species to prevent it from becoming extinct.
Why do bees sting?
Bees love flowers because of their brightness. As a result, the insects are attracted to bright colors even if they are not mainly on flowers. Scents also attract these insects because they love nectar that has a sweet scent.
Bees, therefore, sting when they get attracted to bright colors and sweet scent, not knowing that they will die. Once they sting humans or animals, they leave the stinger on the victim, and as a result, lose part of their body that then leads to death.
What are the best ways to get rid of bees?
There are many methods that you can use to repel or kill bees. The method that you select depends on the results that you want. Do you want to kill the bees? If yes, vinegar, sweet solution, and zappers may be the way to go. Do you want to keep the bees alive? If yes, you may call a beekeeper to manage the insects on your farm or to take them away altogether.
How to repel bees naturally?
There are many ways of how to get rid of bees naturally. One of these is by the use of cucumber or the peels of this fruit. Follow the steps I have outlined above about how to use cucumber effectively. A sweet solution that does not drown bees is also a good bee repellent. Basically, as long as you do not kill bees with the method that you are using, you may consider it to be natural.
Which bees are harmful, and which ones should I not kill?
There are four main types of bees that include carpenter, bumble, ground, and honey bees. Honeybees are the most useful in the environment. They carry out pollination and produce honey that is used for medicinal purposes.
Therefore, if you notice honeybees on your farm, you should find a way of how to get rid of helpful honey bees without killing them. The other types, such as ground and carpenter, also pollinate plants, but they are not as beneficial as honeybees.
So Which Method Should You Use to Prevent Bees?
Basically, bees have both benefits and limitations. Having them in your compound may help in the pollination of plants, and if you are the type that loves honey, you will never run out of this sweetener. There are different types of bees. The four major ones include honey, bumble, ground, and wood or carpenter bees.
When you decide that you do not want these insects buzzing around your compound, you need to know the type that you are dealing with before undertaking any measure. You may use this guide to identify the characteristics of each type, and if you are still not sure, call for professional help.
Also, the method that you select will depend on one major factor. Do you want the bees to die, or are you ready to keep them alive?
If keeping them alive is the option, a beekeeper may become your best friend! Beekeepers may also help you to keep the insects under strict control so that they do not harm you, and you do not interfere with their environment. Other techniques include using bee spray for the yard, repellents, or traps.

How to Choose the Best Product to Kill Fire Ants?
When it comes to best fire ant killer reviews, you will always get mixed feelings about the different brands. Certain customers will be complaining that a product they used did not yield the expected results. On the same page, you will find others raving about the same product. Opinions can vary because some people failed to follow the recommended instructions. So how do you get to know which pesticides are guaranteed to yield you good results if used effectively? Below is a list of factors you should take into account.
Types of Ant Killing Pesticides
Different brands use different methods when making their pesticides and manufacture them in different forms. But it doesn’t mean that one form is inferior to others. The decision which form is suitable for you depends on where you are going to apply the pesticide and the tools available for application. So let’s discuss types of fire ant insecticide in detail.
Ant granules
This form of pesticides utilizes the bait technique to trick the ants to consuming them, hence poisoning them. Due to the social nature of the ants, they will carry the granules back into the mound just like any other food. This works to your advantage because eventually, the queen and larvae will consume them, thereby ending the whole colony. This form of fire ant killer is generally suitable if you are looking for a pesticide to apply outdoors, for example, your lawn, fields, and yards. Granules can remain effective for a long time, even when they come in contact with water.
Ant Sprays
An ant spray is a liquid fire ant killer that usually kills the ant once it comes into contact with it. This makes sprays very effective. Based on how they work, this form of fire ant killer is best used when you want to eliminate ants that have camped in your house. It’s also a good option if you are trying to find a fast solution to eliminate a high population of ants.
Ant gels
These are ant killers that come packed in tubes. The packages are shaped like syringes that make it easier for you to apply them on surfaces. Gels can be a good option for applying on cracks and holes that the ants use to get into your house. They attract ants as bait so you can apply them in areas around your pavements.
Safety Concerns
The process of eliminating ants should not cause more damage than intended. You do not want a situation when you may end up eliminating pets together with the fire ants. Therefore, always look for products that have a minimal negative impact, if any on pets.
Time the Red Ant Killer Needs to Start Working?
How bad is your ant problem, and how fast do you want it to solve? It will depend on the type of fire ant killer you choose to buy. You should read the manufacturer’s instructions on the pesticide to understand how long it takes to experience tangible results.
Common Questions About Fire Ant Insecticide
I hope now you have a clue about how to purchase an effective pesticide. The next step is to understand how to use it to get the expected results. In this section, you’ll find answers to questions that arise on the use of fire ant killers.
How Does Fire Ant Killer Work?
Most of these fire ant killers are poisons that affect the ant nervous system and eventually kill them. For example, granules work by gradually poisoning ants until they are dead.
Unlike sprays, most ant killers are not meant to have an immediate impact. The idea is that the worker ants will take granules and powder to their mound so that even the queen and larvae can consume it. Therefore, it may take hours or even days before you can see the results.
How to Apply Fire Ant Killer?
Begin by establishing where the ant mound is located and their trail. Find their home and determine which paths they use to get there. Once you have established this trail, you should apply the ant bait granules there and wait for the worker ants to take it back to their colony. If the ants have camped inside your house, you can apply the bait outside to attract the ants outdoors. Alternatively, you can directly apply the ant sprays on their mounds. The gel should also be applied near the mound and their paths to have a better impact.
Are Fire Ant Killers Safe Around Vegetables and Pets?
Most of the fire ant killers are poisons. They may have a negative impact on your pet and vegetation around which they are used. Therefore, always read the manufacturer’s instructions to see any potential harm they may have on your pets and vegetables. Always keep the ant killer packages away from your pets.
Already Sure On the Most Effective Fire Ant Killer?
I have given you information and recommendations on how to choose an effective fire ant killer, which I hope will help you make an informed choice. If you ask me, I always give my preference to the Syngenta Advion Insecticide. But it’s up to you to decide which product to buy, and you should take into account your specific circumstances. For example, if you have many pets, you should purchase a pesticide that will not harm them. Also, the situation may be quite different for you if the ants have set camp inside your house.

Regardless of where you live, you must have encountered ants. These are species that are found in all regions except the places that are too cold like Antarctica.
They are mostly found in colonies, just like wasps. These creatures love living together so that they can work for the success of the whole colony. There are precise roles that are played by each of the ants in the colony.
How do you know that the creatures moving around your home are ants? They have distinct characteristics, including their bodies being divided into 3 parts, having six legs, and bent antennae. However, their sizes differ depending on the species.
Ants can be a nuisance in your living space. What Are Ants?
You cannot deal with something that you do not know. Before you learn how to eradicate ants, you should learn what they are. They are social insects that are classified in a family called Formicidae. Their scientific order is called Hymenoptera. The ants have a close relationship with wasps and are also known to live in colonies.
When you compare ants to other insects, they are fairly easier to notice. This is because of their distinct features. One thing that distinguishes them from other insects is their bent antennas. Moreover, you will notice that they have a big head and the mandibles that they use for chewing.
How do you differentiate ants from other insect species? They have three body parts with a head, waist region, and lastly, the abdomen. Unlike spiders that have eight legs, ants have six. Their bent antennas separate them from termites.
Ant love natural ecosystems where they can get food and build their homes. However, population pressure and encroachment by humans in ant habitats have forced these organisms to interact with humans. You will find them in pavements, lawns, and homes. When they find a good source of food within your indoor environment, they leave a trail that other ants can follow. Within no time, you may find many ants within your living space. It is for that reason that you should know how to get rid of ants in the house and outside as well.

You are more likely to find them in yards as opposed to an indoor environment. They are mostly found in the Eastern parts of the United States of America. The scientific name of this ant is Crematogaster.
Black ants
These ants are small and black in color. The smallest ones are 2mm long while the longest ants in this category measure 4mm long.
Argentine ants
These ants only have one node and are between 2.2 and 2.8 millimeters in length. They have different variations of brown from dark to light. What differentiates them from other species is the fact that their antennas and legs are extremely long. They do not choose where to live. You will see their colonies in dry environments, and they also like moist spaces.
When outdoors, they mostly love garbage and soil. Their attractive indoor space is below carpets and houseplants. Although they do not sting, they are known to make crazy movements in case they are disturbed. This is the characteristic that earned them their name. The ants’ scientific name is Paratrechina longicornis and is mostly found in Florida.

Because of their sharp mandibles, they can comfortably break a dead lizard into pieces. Although most of the ants are known to exhibit carnivore behavior, there are a few examples like Leaf-Cutter, which only eats plants.
There are also cases where the ants search for live animals to feast on them. For instance, driver ants are known to do an aggressive search for food devouring small insects and other animals.

Availability of Food Where You Live
Ants are always looking for something to eat. You will notice that they always attack food remains in swarms and can actively feed on them for hours. Ants mostly love foods that are sugary such as honey. Therefore, any spills within the place you live will attract them. That is why they love kitchen counters and tables where there are food leftovers.
The other area that acts as a source of food to the creatures is garbage. When there are food leftovers in your garbage bin, you will most likely see ants. Most plans within the home emit attractive smells. Although most ants do not feed on plants, they are attracted by the scent of these plants. These are things that you should not ignore as you strategize on how to get rid of ants naturally.
Safe Places in Your Home Attract These Insects
Ants are known to build their safe nests underground. However, there are also times they may find your home as an ideal place to build their habitat, especially when your walls have cracks. They also love wood fixtures within the home.
Use of Pesticides Outdoors Can Attract Them
The general belief is that pesticides are used for the control of pests. However, there are cases where these pesticides remove the ants from the yard and make them seek refuge inside your house. This is because the ants find the house safer compared to outside.
How Do the Ants Work Together and Increase Within Your Home?
The communication between ants depends on the species. However, most of them are known to convey their messages through chemicals. They secrete a chemical called pheromones close to the food sources. This is a form of communication to the other ant species to follow the trail so that they can reach the food. Where there is a threat, the ants also release distress chemicals to the others.
There are also times when the ants use sound to communicate. To put it simply, the mode of communication is determined by the species and the situation at hand.
Ants work as a community to achieve their goals. The first group of ants is called the scout ants, and their role is to search for food sources. Once they identify a source, they communicate with the worker ants who take the food to the colony.
How Do You Know There Is Ant Problem in Home?
When you notice a few ants around your living space, it doesn’t necessarily imply that you have a full-blown infestation. But there are a few specific signs that point to an ant invasion:
Live Ants in Many Areas of Your Property
Although a few ants do not mean that there exists an ant invasion within the home, there are times you may notice that the numbers are beyond normal. A huge number of them in your living room or kitchen is an indication that there is a large colony somewhere nearby. The ones you see around may be looking for food to take to the colony.

Ants are known to move in trails. The line movement is an indication that they are being attracted by pheromone. They only settle once they have reached the food. It is the trail that assists in their movement towards and away from the colony.
The Bowl Used by Your Pet Is Attacked by Ants
Ants do not select the type of food they eat. They love the fresh food you have cooked, and they are attracted by the food that remains from your pet. If you notice ants in the bowl that is used by your pet, that is an indication that there are other ants around.
In nature and the suburban areas, ants bring tangible benefits: in particular, they protect plants from harmful insects (caterpillars, slugs, etc.). However, once they get into a room, from the defenders, they turn into pests themselves. Ants are far from being as harmless as they seem at first glance and certainly will not bring you […]
When there are ant piles anywhere around your house, you should be cautious as the ants are likely to attack your house. It’s because your home is a source of food for them. The closer they are to your house, the higher the chances of invasion. Therefore, you should be working on finding solutions to how to get rid of ants outside and ensure that you are safe.
What Damage Can Ants Cause to Your Home?
Many risks are related to an ant infestation. That’s why you should seek ways of getting rid of them. Ants pose a danger to your home and health in many ways.
Contamination of food
Apart from being a nuisance to you, there are also health risks they may pose to your family members. The first thing you should know about them is that they can contaminate your food. As the ants move along, they collect bacteria from different areas, including the floor.
After that, they move to your utensils and food and leave the bacteria there. And don’t forget that these ants also move through garbage and washroom floors.
All these germs are then transmitted to your food. Therefore, you should be cautious. Always ensure that the containers you use for storing your foods are sealed so that ants can’t penetrate them. Your kitchen hygiene should be top-notch as a natural way to get rid of ants.
Stings and bites
You should not underestimate the stings from the ants. Most ants are known to bite humans as a way of defending themselves when they feel threatened. There are cases where you can get an infection after the bite if you do not clean the bite area as expected.
Some ants inject venoms during their stings. Depending on the chemical that the ant leaves on your skin, you may experience complications such as dizziness and diarrhea.
Allergic reactions
Ant stings can make you sick. You are likely to experience things like skin irritation and nausea. It is crucial to seek the assistance of a medical professional in such situations.
Property damage
Carpenter ants are known to cause severe destruction to the home. For instance, they are known to damage wood in a bid to establish their colony. If you do not notice and eliminate them on time, they can even bring down your whole building. That’s why you need to know how to repel ants completely from your space.
Ways to Kill Ants in House Effectively
If you already have the ants in the house, you should look for ways of killing them. Do you know how to get rid of ants permanently from your house? Baits, sprays, and gels are the most effective approaches that will get the job done fast.
If you’re intending to prevent ants from attacking your home, get rid of anything that would tempt them to pay a visit in the first place. Seal and put away all your food sources, remove crumbs and juice spills from the shelves, wash all the dishes and clean out the sink on a regular basis. […]
When you have ensured that your home sanitation is proper, it’s time to seek solutions to how to kill ants that are already within your house. There are ant baits that may help you through this process. Using baits increases the chances of removing the ants completely from your home.
Ant baits or traps are insecticides that are combined with liquid or food to attract ants. The worker ants will carry it to the nest where it spreads throughout the colony, killing the queen and larvae. Baits offer a long-lasting solution since they eliminate all the ants. Besides, some commercially available baits eliminate other bugs too.
Put the bait in a place where you have noticed the activities by ants. However, do not put the bait on the actual trail. When they realize it is around, they can take a route that is away from the bait. Instead, place the bait a distance away from the activity or trail.
What are the ideal places for the bait? Place it on the kitchen cabinets, where there are pipes that may provide water for the ants, and near bathroom fixtures. Monitor the process and make the necessary adjustments until you notice that there is no longer any ant activity. Check my Terro Ant Bait review. This thing works like a charm.
Many people have come to me expressing their frustration regarding ants in their residential settings. Well, for many individuals, these little insects are very irritating, and getting a strategy to eliminate them is priceless. Prior to becoming an entomologist, I also had my own share of struggles with ants, and never knew of any 100% […]
Ants are definitely worth our attention. These insects are intelligent, they communicate using pheromones, and the population of their colonies is divided into castes. Moreover, ant is probably the only insect type spread around the whole planet Earth. Still, there’s nothing cool about ants when they appear in your kitchen. Speaking about indoor ant invasion, […]
There are cases when the ants may avoid baits. Then you should use ant sprays. The non-repellent types will be more effective because the ants may not notice them. Moreover, the ants can carry them back to the colonies. Since sprays don’t kill ants immediately, many other colony occupants will be affected by such insecticides.
Are you tired of seeing ants all over the place? Do you want to get rid of them instantly? Have you tried lots of ant elimination methods without any success? If the answer is yes, then make a point of reading about the 5 best ant sprays that will repel ants from your place. My […]
Gels come in tubes with a syringe. You can apply them directly in the places where the ants enter the house and on the ants’ tracks. The most effective gels have a combination of slow-acting poison and a strong food attractant. The ants will carry the gel back to the nest, and, eventually, the entire colony will be eliminated.
Natural Ways to Eliminate Ants Inside
There are some natural methods to eliminate ants, but they are not as effective as using baits/traps, sprays, or gels. Some home remedies to get rid of ants include:
Vinegar
How does this remedy work? You should carefully wipe the places where you have noticed ants with a solution that has water and vinegar in the ratio of 50:50. You should repeat this procedure several times a day.
The ants go away because they do not like the scent of vinegar. Moreover, the solution removes the trail used by other ants, so they do not have an idea about where the food source is located.
Chalk
You can draw a chalk line within the location that the ants are using to access your house. You create a barrier, and the ants find it hard to enter your house. The trick works because the chalk contains calcium carbonate that prevents ants from picking up on the scent of other ants.
Use borax
Another way of removing ants from home is by applying the borax mixture in a place where you are sure the ants will locate it easily. This mixture contains mild toxins, so you should put it in places where your pets and kids cannot reach it.
Borax kills the ants by interfering with their digestive system. Moreover, it destroys the ants’ outer skeletons. Therefore, the ants can die in the long run. You may also use baking soda to kill ants as an alternative.
Ants are a great example of workers, but if their work is to steal food from your house, hardly is it worth your admiration. Instead of awe, you may rather experience curiosity about how to get rid of ants with borax (if you have some or have heard about this method). Yes, indeed it’s possible, […]
Baking soda is a non-toxic way to get rid of ants. We put it in our pastry, which means that it is totally safe for our home, children, and pets. It is also one of the cheapest ways to kill insects. Baking soda costs less than any other baits. If you don’t have lots of […]
If you are a coffee drinker, you can use coffee grounds to repel ants. Sprinkle the coffee grounds in the areas where you notice ants, and the scent may drive away these creatures.
How to Prevent Another Ant Infestation in the House
It is crucial to put in place both outdoor and indoor sanitation measures to ensure that you do not experience another infestation. Here is what you can do to reduce the chances of ant infestation within the house:
Remove Food Sources from the House
The first thing you can do to control the infestation of ants is to ensure that your sanitation measures are top-notch. Regardless of the elimination measures you put in place, proper sanitation is critical. Otherwise, you may kill the first bunch of ants only for the next to be attracted by the food you leave carelessly.
Removing the food sources that attract the ants is a good prevention measure. How should you do this? You should properly clean all your kitchen appliances and cabinets because food spills around them provide a perfect location for these ants. Therefore, ensure that you clean your refrigerator regularly, inspect your microwave, clean the toaster and all the other appliances.
Another important measure is to ensure that your food is always kept in sealed containers. Because of their small nature, ants always find a way of accessing food that is kept in loose boxes or bags. A proper seal makes it hard for them to find the food source.
Designate one room where people eat. That way, you limit the areas where you can experience ant infestation. If there are food spills in this space, deal with them properly.
Always ensure that your kitchen is very clean before you go to bed. Ants typically come out of their hiding places at night to search for food. When they find nothing to feast on, they move to other areas. Always clean the countertops and wash up after meals.
Moreover, you should ensure that all the other areas where food is not handled are clean. Sweep the crumbs that may have strayed and eliminate any ants that may secrete pheromones to attract others.
Remove Water Sources That Attract Ants
Ants love water, and it attracts them to your home environment. Although you may not remove all these sources, it is important to ensure that you eradicate as many of them as you can to put yourself in a secure position.
What measures can you take to reduce the water sources which attract ants? If there are leaky pipes around your home, you should fix them immediately. Leaving them the way they are means that you are attracting ant invasion. Every night before you go to bed, make sure that all the sinks are dry, the showers and taps are not leaking, and the bath tabs are completely drained.
For those who use dish rags, store them in airtight containers. Alternatively, you can hang them in outdoor environments so that they can dry completely. Empty all the bowls where you put water for the pets if they are in the house. Dry any other trays that can bring an ant problem in the home.
Damage all the Ant Entry Points
Ants are known to prefer safe areas as their hiding ground. By removing them, you will make your house an unattractive place for them. For instance, a crack in the walls attracts huge ant colonies. If your house has any cracks, block the entry of the ants by doing repairs. If flying ants are constantly trying to enter your home, use nettings before you identify and destroy their colony outside.
Tips on How to Get Rid of Ants in the Yard
Some ants crawl in the exterior parts of your house. They are the ones that end up in the house after a while. Therefore, it is crucial to find ways of eliminating them. You can only cope with this problem if you make your house unattractive to these ants. There are three conditions which lead to ant invasion; availability of the food they need, adequate moisture to help them survive, and shelter. If you break this chain, you are on the path towards making the area around your house ant-free. Getting rid of ants in the yard involve these methods:
Outdoor Ant Baits – Effective Approach of Getting Rid of Ants in Yard
Outside the house, most ants live in locations that can’t be easily noticed. In this case, using baits/traps is an excellent remedy. Baits will attract all the ants and eliminate the entire colony. Moreover, the baits can help you eliminate ants before they reach your property.
While some people use liquids, others use grains. You should use both so that you can capture all the ants. Check regularly if the bait is working as required. If something doesn’t work as it was expected, fix it immediately.
Outdoor Ant Sprays and Insecticides
There are many insecticides available on the market. You should pick the one that works effectively depending on the ant species that have invaded your home. Sprays work instantly and thus are a quick fix for eliminating ants.
Natural Methods
You can as well opt for natural approaches to removing ants. However, note that these methods are not as effective as using baits and insecticides. Therefore, they only provide short-term solutions. Some of the workable natural techniques include:
Boiling Water
Pouring boiling water on the ants will instantly kill them. This method, however, only kills the ants that the water comes into contact with. Therefore, those inside the deeper areas of the anthill will not be affected.
Improvement of the Outside Sanitation – Eradicate Ants without Incurring Many Costs
Sanitation goes beyond just removing the food sources that the ants love. Rather, you should focus on eliminating the conditions that make your yard good for ants. The first step is to monitor the pathways the ants use as they enter your house. There may be trees that act as bridges for the ants to follow from the yard. Ensure that the branches of these trees do not come into contact with your house at any point. That means you should trim them.
Within your yard, there may also be a moist area that provides water for the growth of these ants. Remove the shady condition that contributes moisture for the ants to survive.
Do not leave your lawn in a state that encourages the multiplication of ants in your space. As such, you should mow it frequently and maintain the area so that it is clean and hygienic.
If you keep your trash bins outdoors, you should know that they work against your intention of killing ants indoors and outdoors. It’s because they serve as shelter and source of food for these pests. To ensure that you are safe, they should not be too close to your house. Moreover, you should find tight-fitting lids to close them. To ensure that they are clean, wash the cans with ammonia solution regularly.
Do you have trees with sweet fruits within your compound? They can also lead to ant infestation. Ripe fruits that fall down is a recipe for ants. Therefore, you should collect all of them.
If you want to keep your garden insect-free, one of the first questions is how to get rid of ants in the garden safely. No matter if it’s a natural garden or a raised garden bed, ants are ubiquitous. There are methods to keep them at bay, though, both natural and industrial. How serious are […]
Ever noticed piled-up soil in your yard? It is highly likely that there are unwanted guests in your compound. Most people give a blind eye to such signs and pass up on clearing these piles. Ants are a nuisance and will give you a hard time with their painful stings when you will be trying […]
There are many species of ants that may invade your home. Knowing the type helps you know the remedy that may work for you. What is appropriate for one person may not be good for you. Therefore, you should assess your situation carefully.
Do not assume the ants as harmless organisms. They can cause a lot of harm to you, family members, and even to the environment where you live. Therefore, you should not overlook them. A serious infestation is harmful to your health.
From the content above, I have given many ways that you can use to tell if there is an infestation in your house. The best remedy, however, is to use baits/traps, sprays, and gels. These methods give quick and long-term results.
You should always do a regular check to ensure a huge colony does not find you by surprise. The earlier you begin dealing with these organisms, the better for you.
There are many home remedies for ants outside and inside. Check them carefully. Getting rid of the ants is not something that you can do in a day. You should be patient and apply the methods consistently. More importantly, choose a methodology that works in your situation.
Have you ever experienced an ant infestation? What techniques did you use to eradicate them? What is the most effective method in your view on how to prevent ants in house? Share your opinions by leaving a comment.

American cockroaches, also known as water bugs, top the list of roaches that can infest your home. Being an entomologist with over 25 years of experience in pest control, I have dedicated this blog to those looking for an ideal solution to counter American cockroaches’ infestation.
I have to admit that getting rid of cockroaches is challenging and requires a lot of tenacity. There are over 4,500 cockroach species, with 69 of those living in the USA, and this highlights the need for pest identification before settling on a given roach elimination method.
Additionally, learning about these species habitats and diets can ease the process of eliminating them. So let’s start by briefly looking into these pests’ general information.
[wpsm_titlebox title=”How to Get Rid of American Cockroaches” style=”main”]
Ensure your house is always clean.
Caulk all cracks using silicone-based plugs.
Use insect baits. The bait is placed on common entry points.
Use traps to catch cockroaches. Traps are also an ideal way of catching cockroaches.
Use cockroach spray, dust or natural methods.

What Does an American Cockroach Look Like – Color and Appearance
An adult American roach is reddish-brown, with a yellow band. If you are wondering what an American cockroach size is, it is up to 4 cm long. They are winged, although they rarely fly. Adult roaches become more reddish as they mature. Female cockroaches lay up to 14 egg capsules in their lifetime. Each capsule is 0.9cm long and contains close to 16 eggs.
These pests’ lifecycle consists of three stages; egg, nymph, and adult. The eggs stay for 6 to 8 weeks before hatching into nymphs. Upon hatching, an American cockroach nymph is white, although the color changes to graying-brown with maturity.
Nymphs undergo a series of molting or ecdysis (9 to 13 times) before they reach maturity. The average lifespan of American roaches is 90 to 706 for females, and 90 to 362 for males. In the event of food availability, the process of development from egg to adult can be as short as five and a half months.
German Vs. American cockroach comparison; people mainly confuse these two, but German roaches have light brown bodies and are less than an inch in length.
What Causes American Roaches?
These pests mainly live outside the house, although they are also common indoors. In the Northern part of the USA, you’ll easily find them in sewers and drains. Contrary, people living in the Southern part easily observe these filthy creatures living in humid areas, and during the hot season, they spot them outdoor.
American roaches easily enter our homes in search of food, shelter, and warmth, all of which are easily accessible for their thriving. They come through cracks, vents, and pipes, which also provide an ideal site for these pests to lay and hide their eggs. Additionally, American cockroaches thrive in warm and moist surroundings, around 84F.
However, dirty homes are the ultimate place for roaches to breed. Cockroaches get attracted by food leftovers, dirty dishes, or moisture from leaking pipes. The main challenge with the pest is that they stay in the houses throughout all seasons.
However, they are more active in the summer. That said, bear in mind that even though having a dirty house might increase the chances of cockroach visits, having a cleaner one doesn’t guarantee an absence of these pests. This is because they lay eggs in many places, and they can enter your house through multiple channels.
Damage Caused By American Roaches
One question that might be bothering many people is if American roaches can bite human beings. The truth is, an American cockroach bite is rare, although the pests have the ability to do so. Additionally, these bites won’t cause any concern unless they get infected.
That said, these cockroaches damage your health as they are attracted to dead matter and live in sewers. They are known to spread over 33 types of bacteria, including E. coli and Salmonella, over six types of parasitic worms, as well as seven human pathogens.
But how are these pests able to cause all these health problems? Well, the pests crawl through the dead matter and sewers where they live, collecting these germs in the process. The germs get deposited on the surfaces these pests contact, including food and cooking area.
American roaches’ excretions and saliva are known to contain allergen proteins that are responsible for causing asthmatic attacks, especially among kids.
What Are Signs of American Cockroach Infestation?
There are four ways you can use to know if there are American cockroaches in your house. These include:
Sightings – you can easily see these cockroaches running very fast as they flee to dark areas. When frightened, these roaches might even fly.
Droppings – these are easily seen in areas that roaches hide. However, there’s a little confusion between roaches and mice excretions, but here’s a way to differentiate these two. Roaches droppings are small, side-ridged with blunt ends, whereas mice droppings have pointed ends.
Egg capsules – check for American cockroach eggs or capsules in the basement or near food sources. The egg cases are reddish-brown and measure about 8mm in length.
Odor – American roaches produce an aggregation pheromone, that’s responsible for the pests living in groups. The scent can be easily noted to those with a sensitive nose.
How to Get Rid of American Roaches
Cockroaches are tough to deal with since they exhibit some of the unique survival tactics. For instance, they can live for up to one week without their head, which becomes a disaster for homeowners.
Under this section, I will cover four main methods of cockroach elimination, but before that, good hygiene and exclusion are ultimately important.
The Role of Proper Hygiene and Exclusion in Eliminating American Cockroaches
The processes deprive cockroaches of their basic needs, thus inhibiting their reproduction. As a result, you will have a small and a non-reproducing population to deal with, which vehemently increases your chances of eliminating the pests.
Sanitation
Ensure your house is always clean as the environment will threaten the pests’ chances of survival. Additionally, clean homes are not attractive to American roaches. Make sure the cooking area, sinks, and floor are free of food remains. Keep your pet food and dustbin ideally sealed. You can also vacuum your house weekly to remove all foodstuffs that might have been unnoticeable during regular cleaning. Lastly, embrace the idea of storing food in airtight containers.
Exclusion
Barrier exclusion is the most common practice in preventing American roaches from entering your home. The method involves sealing all cracks through the use of a silicone-based plug.
Insect Baits
The process is effective in eliminating crawling pests, and cockroaches are no exception. Insect baits mode of action makes them one of the most recommended options in eliminating roaches. The bait is placed on common entry points.
Their effect isn’t instant, and once the cockroach has taken a piece of the bait, they get time to make it to their nests and share with the other roaches. In the end, the bait ends up wiping out the entire population gradually. All you need is to be patient and to place the item on an ideal spot.
Traps
Traps are also an ideal way of catching cockroaches, and they do not require your active involvement to work effectively. You only need to place them where you usually spot roaches and let the trap do the trick for you.
They contain pest attractants and non-toxic glue for luring and trapping roaches. The main advantage of traps is that they can be used for months before replacement.
Sprays
These can be used for indoor and outdoor treatment. When used as outdoor treatments, they work ideally in keeping the roaches out of your house. All you need to do is spray about 3 to 6 feet around the house to form a perimeter barrier. You can also spray around pipe openings, vents, and doors.
For indoor treatments, spray around common pests entry points. Additionally, apply around the corners in the basement and under the sinks.
Dust
These have a long-lasting effect comparing to sprays. Their application process is, however, similar, and they are mainly used as roaches’ repellents. Apply dust on cracks, as well as around doors and window frames.
Natural Methods
These involve the use of natural products such as:
A mixture of baking powder and sugar – this kills cockroaches, especially when applied in their hideouts.
Boric acid – this kills roaches instantly upon contact. However, you need to apply the acid in the ideal place for cockroaches to get into contact. Additionally, it isn’t effective when wet, and only small amounts will work for you. Once roaches come into contact with the acid, it is ingested during grooming, thus resulting in the death of the pest.
Bay leaves – these are effective as repellents.
Lemon juice – contains some anti-pathogenic properties that aid in keeping the insects at bay.
The only challenge with natural methods is they aren’t much effective as most do not reach the hiding pests. Also, some of these require your active involvement in the process.

It is an irritating sight to switch on your lights and see tiny roaches scamper across the floor, kitchen tops, and furniture to safety. Cockroach babies are a common and huge predicament to many households, as they multiply very fast under conducive conditions.
When it comes to baby cockroach size, different species look different. For example, the American baby roaches being the biggest of them all are around 0.8 centimeters in length, and they grow up to four centimeters long as adults.
To eliminate these pests, one needs to take into account various factors, including their lifecycle, ideal breeding conditions, and also eating habits. In this article, I want to cover these points and provide you with some pictures of baby cockroaches according to their species.
The Cockroach Lifecycle
Typically, cockroaches live for about six to eighteen months, depending on the species and environmental conditions, such as temperature. It is vital to understand the growth cycle of roaches to get rid of them before they reproduce and become an acute problem. Just as with some other pests, cockroaches have a three-phased life cycle.
The initial stage of a roach’s life is the egg one. Adult roaches lay approximately fifty eggs at once, and the number can decrease, depending on the temperature and humidity conditions of the environment. Isolated spots that are somewhat warm and suitable humid conditions are the ideal places where cockroaches may lay and hide their eggs. Some of such locations include:
Stores and basements
Furniture joints
Ceilings and walls
Inside electrical appliances
Bathrooms and under sinks
On average, the eggs take about two months, under the right climatic conditions, to hatch. The hatching period also depends on the species. In a conducive environment with high temperatures, the eggs tend to develop quickly and hatch within a shorter span. Most cockroaches have multiple laying phases in their lifetimes, and it explains the fast growth of infestations.
Nymph
Hatching of the eggs marks the beginning of the nymph stage. It is the phase when roaches develop the adult features bit by bit with each molt. The newborn cockroach is often without fully developed external body parts. In this stage, the nymphs shed their skin several times, and, with each molt, they grow bigger.
It is during this stage that these pests are most vulnerable, especially right after each molting. It is because their new skin is sensitive after they shed off the old one. Also, it is in this phase that the nymphs undergo coloration, depending on the species.
Do baby cockroaches fly?
No, as mostly, baby roaches do not have fully-developed wings and, therefore, are not in a position to fly.
Their flying ability is realized as they mature into adulthood. Once the nymphs have developed into adults, their negative impact can’t be overlooked. These pests are notorious for not only causing physical damage on properties, but they may also pose a significant health risk by spreading bacteria. This phase typically spans for about one to three months.
Adult
Once the nymphs have developed into adults, they spend most of their time resting and breeding. They will only come out when it’s dark to look for food. Noteworthy, they can go for weeks without eating after having a good meal. Some species, such as the American roach, have wings that allow them to fly. Females can lay fertilized eggs all their lives after a single mating process.
Diverse Appearances of Different Baby Roaches
Like many others, you might be wondering, what do baby cockroaches look like? The physical appearance of the young roaches differs depending on the species so that some baby roaches are much bigger than others. Once an egg hatches and the nymph emerges, usually, it is white and undergoes coloration to a brown pigment.
As I have mentioned before, most baby roaches don’t have wings. Though there are over 2,500 cockroach species in the world, there are common ones that tend to live in residential areas. Here is a list of the species you may spot at home:
American
Brown-banded
German
Oriental
Dusky
Lesser
How small are baby cockroaches?
Once hatched, some nymphs, such as a baby German cockroach, are typically small, measuring about 0.3 centimeters in length. Unlike adults, baby roaches are not overly cautious. Therefore, you are likely to come across several of them in your kitchen during the day. Here’s an image of a German roach nymph:
As for the baby American cockroach, it is usually a little bigger than its German and Oriental counterparts, measuring about 0.8 centimeters. The picture below shows American baby roach images in various growth stages:
Conducive Conditions for Breeding of Roaches
Similar to any other living thing, cockroaches need a specific set of environmental conditions. The moment a few adult cockroaches enter your house and find the appropriate conditions will be the onset of breeding.
The first factor is conducive temperatures. Typically, these pests will do so well at standard room temperature with tolerance to temperatures slightly below that. Most species are found within the equatorial and tropical regions, and it evidences their temperature preferences. Too much heat or low freezing temperatures are not ideal for their breeding and growth.
Also, roaches require the right humidity conditions for them to thrive. Though they do not need their surroundings to be overly wet, these pests love damp surfaces. It explains why infestations occur in bathrooms, basements, kitchens, and other places, such as forest floors.
Although not a primary factor, roaches also do well in places not exposed to too much light. It is because they are somewhat conscious of the threat that stares at them when they are fully exposed.
When checking for roaches at your place, look in hard-to-reach areas, below sinks, along furniture joints, spaces in the walls, and similar places. Additionally, food is a vital factor for any living thing. Thus, cockroaches will go where there’s something to feed on. In households, these pests primarily feed on food scraps and, in the absence of these, decaying organic substances, such as smaller pests and books.
What Are Strategies for Eliminating Baby Roaches?
For many, baby roaches are disgusting and depict a huge problem that calls for immediate attention. The rapid rate at which they breed and multiply will see that cockroaches are all over your house if you don’t deal with the problem early enough. Many individuals do not know how to get rid of baby roaches and prevent further appearance. Here are several cockroach control strategies one can employ:
Use of gel baits;
Anti-pest sprays;
Cockroach traps;
Use of organic repellents.
The use of cockroach gels is one of the most effective elimination methods around. Gels are easy to apply, and their effectiveness averagely spans one week. They are suitable for use on surfaces, such as furniture, under sinks, and on the walls. You will need to apply several streaks on a targeted surface two to five centimeters apart.
There are also anti-pest cockroach sprays that are known for immediate effectiveness. They are great for eliminating young roaches. Moreover, such products are perfect for hard-to-reach areas, such as cracks on walls.
Cockroach traps are cubic or cuboid in shape with several openings. Most of these traps have poisonous substances inside. When using them, you need to place them strategically in the breeding zones of cockroaches to ensure effective results. It is because you want as many roaches as possible to enter the trap.
Finally, for individuals who are not for chemical products, other options involve the use of organic homemade repellents. Worth mentioning, such repellents are not very effective in killing roaches but come in handy in preventing other species from entering the house. Such solutions include vinegar repellent, catnip, and garlic.
Ways to Secure Your Home from Roaches
After getting rid of roaches from your home, how can one prevent another infestation from occurring? If you are seeing baby roaches after extermination, that means there are still conditions conducive for breeding cockroaches in your house. To get rid of them for good, you need to eliminate all the factors that fostered the first infestation.
The first things to take into consideration are water leakages, sanitary conditions, and lighting. Regular cleaning is essential to keep all types of pests away. Frequently check and clean your store, shelves, basement, closet, and garage. As for leakages, check all places for any dampness and identify where the water is coming from. Seeing baby roaches in the bathroom is an indicator of some leakages you are not aware of.
You can seal leakages by applying epoxy putty, using tightening joints, and making necessary replacements. Additionally, cracks should be sealed off as well, as there are not only breeding zones but also entry points of other roaches into the house. There are many products available that are handy in sealing cracks, including crack fillers and patches.
Introducing proper lighting is another strategy that will help in keeping roaches away. Also, you need to collect and dispose of all the food scraps right as you see them. Baby roaches in the kitchen indicate poor storage of foodstuffs or poor waste management. Accumulated kitchen waste is a major factor that attracts cockroaches and many other insects, such as flies. With these precaution measures, you can be sure of keeping roaches at bay.
Be Done with Roaches Forever
Roaches are a threat to human health, as they facilitate the spreading of bacteria. You can even get food poisoning if roaches invade your kitchen. After looking at the various factors that facilitate the infestation of cockroaches, you now know that it is vital to undertake regular cleaning and check for the presence of cracks on walls.
If you have many items, such as books and clothes, stored away, you might consider frequently checking them, as they are excellent breeding zones for roaches. Additionally, proper drainage is of the essence because these pests like damp surfaces. Finally, ensure there’s good lighting in your house to keep off roaches.

4. Indoor Plug-In Zapper – The Best Zapper to Kill Gnats Within Your House
Item Dimensions LxWxH: 15.01 x 10.92 x 3.12 inches
Target Species: Mosquitoes, Flies, Moths, No-See-Ums, Gnats and other flying insects
This bug zapper works through electricity and a UV light that removes gnats like flies, bugs, moths, and even mosquitoes. A zapper like this one works by luring these kinds of gnats into the light and then killing them with a deadly electrical current. This zapper can cover up to 20 square meters meaning that bugs will be long dead before they attack you or anyone else even in a large room.
The use of a bug zapper, in my opinion, is the best way to kill gnats in house. You can always reuse it, unlike other methods like a gnat spray killer and a physical trap. You only need to clean the zapper after use and wait to apply it at any additional time when you wish. Conversely, you might need to keep replacing the traps until your gnat problem goes away. You can use this bug zapper for a full year.
Besides, it is the best gnat killer for indoors because it emits no odor. Thus, you do not need to fret when using it in a room with someone who is allergic to strange smells. Also, it produces no noise when working. This allows you to sleep soundly and leave it to fight the nights for you. It is also ideal for use in a home with small babies as it is safe. Further, it is environmentally-friendly.
Another thing that makes this product the best bug zapper for gnats is the way it is designed to veil the bodies of the gnats it has killed within a given period. You will not see them until you have switched it off and opened it for cleaning. Thus, it maintains high sanitary standards in your home.
Target Species: White Flies, Mosquitos, Flying Insects
If you are a believer in organic products and methods when it comes to the elimination of pests, then you should consider purchasing the Trappify sticky traps. They do not have harsh chemicals, insecticides, or herbicides. They work by removing small pests naturally. These traps are yellow. The color is efficient that the gnats are attracted to the yellow paper unto which they get stuck once they land on them.
To ensure that you trap as many gnats and pests as possible, I suggest that you place several of them around and in your house. Alternatively, you can stick them inside your plant pots. If you have a serious infestation, consider purchasing the packet that contains 25 sticky traps instead of the one with 12. When flies and other pets cover the traps, remove the stickers. Remember, you will need a newspaper in which to enfold them before disposal.
These gnat traps are covered with strong adhesive glue on both sides, meaning that you can stick them on either side, and they will stick. I would suggest that you avoid touching them once you peel their outer covering to prevent sticking on your hands, as they are quite sticky. They also have self-shaping hooks, which allow you to hang them if you prefer that way. It also implies that you can hang them on branches and stems of the affected plants.
Pros:
Cons:
suitable for indoor and outdoor use;
the double-sided design aids in the catching of more pests;
Includes: 12 packs of 7 traps for a total of 84 traps
Item Weight: 0.06 Pounds
Item Dimensions LxWxH: 0.2 x 3.9 x 7.5 inches
Target Species: Fly, Thrip, White Fly, Gnat
If you have been wondering about the best way to kill fungus gnats that invade your houseplants, then your answer is this gnat killer by Safer Brand. One pack of this fungus gnat killer contains seven stakes and seven traps. It gives you the freedom to choose how to set it up, depending on how grave the infestation is. You could choose to use one or two papers or traps per stick.
This Safer Brand product is the best fungus gnat killer because it is harmless. It does not contain pesticides. It works by drawing the pests towards it like a magnet. They are attracted to it because the traps are made using the yellow color. The first thing to do when you open the pack of this gnat killer is to assemble the stakes. To do this, mount the sticks onto each other to your ideal length.
The next step is to peel the yellow-colored traps so that the glue on them is exposed. You may unpeel your chosen number of pitfalls. Once the glue is exposed, take each of the assembled stakes and insert it into the soil supporting your houseplants. You can go further and shake your plant to release any hidden pests so that they fly towards the traps.
The fungus gnat trap is also easy to dispose of. You need to wrap them with a newspaper before discarding, as this is the best and safest disposal technique. Besides, you can reuse the stakes whenever you need to entrap more gnats.

Finally, it can also be used in commercial areas to terminate insects and other pests that hide in cracks, ornamentals, and other indoor spots.
Besides use on plants and open spaces, you can also spray this insecticide inside kennels to get rid of fleas that attack your dogs. It is also an efficient product for use in your cowshed to eliminate ticks and other insects. However, you need to beware that when using this insecticide, it is critical to dilute it well to achieve the optimal solution. You can get up to 20 gallons of liquid from this concentrated insecticide.
Further, you should first read all the precautionary instructions on this product before use. For example, parts of the instructions reveal that the use of this product to control subterranean termites may be constrained by restrictive requirements in some states in the US. Therefore, you need to consult a pest control agency in your state before using it for the same purpose.

it is a highly concentrated solution;

Besides, it also works to prevent fungal attacks on your plants’ tissues. Also, it aids in the protection of your plants throughout all seasons. Thus, you do not have to keep purchasing and using it because its effects are long-lasting.
You may note that on the package, Bonide argues that this spray can be used for organic gardening. As a natural substance, it is safe for use around your garden, on your vegetables, and even on your houseplants. In other words, it is a multipurpose gnat killer. FAQ Section
What is the Best Fungus Gnat Killer?
As I mentioned in my article above, I undoubtedly give this title to Bonide BND951. The reason is very simple: I do not like chemical smells, as they can be the cause of various negative consequences for your health. But this remedy is completely odorless.
I strongly recommend you to take a closer look at Trappify sticks. Despite the fact that they are perfectly suitable for outdoor use, these sticky traps are completely organic and do not contain harsh insecticides or chemicals. Besides, the price is very affordable, just about $10.
Which Gnat Killer Should You Go For?
The question of what is the best way to kill gnats has lingered in the minds of many concerned homeowners. The answer to this problem depends on the kind of gnat infestation that has been bothering you. It is also dependent on the effort that you wish to put into eliminating the pests.
From my reviews, it is evident that you can get a zapper, an electric gnat trap, a non-electric gnat trap, or even a solution for termination through spraying.
What you should note is that the electric traps and zappers are a little more costly than the traps that you set by yourself. This is because the electric ones require minimal effort. You only have to plug them into a power source and let them do the work for you.
The traps that you have to unpeel and stick are also effective, although you have to set and then throw them away when the work is done. So, I would suggest that you pick the best gnat killer from my list depending on your preference.
Do you know how to kill gnats? Have you used gnat killers before? Is there a particular one that you feel deserves to be on my top seven list?

As a Buyer, Which Options Do You Have?
Although some of these insects may not bite, they can be a cause of disturbance to you. That is why you need an effective fruit fly catcher. You should know that the fruit flies are mostly found near vegetables, fruits and in grocery stores. Dealing with them is essential if you want to live peacefully.
The products that I have discussed above are effective in trapping fruit flies. They prevent the trapped flies from escaping. However, their level of effectiveness varies depending on the specificity of the infestation. There are various options when you need to buy these products:
Fruit fly sticky traps
The traps in this category are small. They are most effective when used in flower pots. As the insects crawl around, they can get stuck in the tapes. After a while, your space can be free from these annoying insects.
Liquid lure traps
The products use vinegar or other food-based lures. Apart from eliminating the fruit flies, they also work well for other insects around your home. The brands in this category are designed stylishly, which makes them attractive to the buyers.
Electric traps
Wondering how to trap fruit flies in a house or any other place? This type of trap simplifies everything. Being a UV device, it eliminates flying insects and all the other microbes. They are designed with a sticky sheet inside them. The sheet is meant to collect the microbes that are in the room.
The main goal of such traps is to eliminate the spread of insects around food. That is why they contain chemicals that smell like food, such as vegetables, fruits, bread, but are poisonous to insects.
How Do Fruit Fly Traps Work?
Fruit flies are really attracted by the food smells. That is why smelling it, they fly in and sit in a trap. Here is where fly traps start to work. Some traps use UV light to kill fruit flies, some use vinegar, and so on. Anyway, insects die very quickly after they eat or smell poison.
Closing Remarks
Your choice should be based on what suits your purpose the most. You should not pick a product that is not made to solve your specific problem. The best fruit fly trap to buy is one that is effective, affordable, and safe. From the reviews above, you may have noticed that most of the products are safe to use in different environments. Noteworthy, some are only effective when used in an indoor environment; others can be used outdoors, while some suit any place. It is good to pick one that suits your particular needs.
Have you bought the disposable fruit fly traps before? What was your experience with them? Do you think they are more effective than DIY remedies? Give your response by leaving a comment below.

Having a swarm of gnats hovering over your head can be the worst feeling you can possibly have. Even before you know how to get rid of gnats, you should learn what they are. Most people think that any insect they encounter is a gnat. That is not the case.
When you search online, you may come across a heap of misleading information on this subject. Most of the writers have not done their research properly and do not have experience with these insects. Thus, their recommendations might not be helpful.
Are you overburdened with questions like “where do gnats come from?” If you are, then you have come to the right place for a comprehensive look into these insects.
Apart from being a consultant for the agencies doing pest control, I also do surveys on insect control. I have narrowed my work down to agriculture and urban pest control. With the author’s 25-year experience in this area, you are guaranteed to have the best information on gnats: what causes them, how to prevent them, and the elimination methods.
What Are Gnats and How Do They Come about?
The word “gnat” is a term that is generally used to refer to the annoying insects of the Diptera family. Although they can be likened to the mosquitoes, they are a bit smaller. The insects that can be compared to them in terms of size are the tiny flies.
Gnats, just like other small insects, have sensitive receptor organs. As such, the smell of food attracts them. Those who make the commercial fly traps take advantage of this fact. They use these foods to lure and trap the flies.
There are different categories of gnats. Some include:
If you have fruits and vegetables, both fresh and rotting, empty cans, and other forms of organic materials that are in a damp, you should already be thinking of how to eradicate gnats in house. Such environments provide a breeding area for gnats.
Phorid Flies
These flies are attracted to your space by accumulated garbage, contaminated soil, fruits, and vegetables that are rotting. Therefore, you should be cautious about the way you handle such materials.
The center of their attention is usually moist soil that has an organic matter in the decaying process. That is why you are likely to find these gnats in your home if you overwater the potted plants.
Gnats go through a life cycle from the egg stage to adulthood. They mostly mate in the evenings. This happens when they are in swarms on the streets. Different species lay eggs in different areas. Some do this in the water, while others prefer the land. At the larvae stage, the gnats are unable to move. The adult gnats are of various sizes. However, no species grows beyond 33mm.
What Can Attract the Gnats to Your House and Other Areas?
As mentioned before, gnats love places with moisture and areas where they can find various organic materials. That is why it is common to find gnats in the bathroom. Moreover, you are more likely to encounter them during the summer as compared to winter.
Their reasons for coming to the house is to search for food as well as locate places where they can comfortably procreate. You are more likely to find them in places with decaying organic materials and other areas that have moisture, such as the wet potting soil, house sinks, as well as the drains.
What causes gnats? Here are the specific reasons why you are more likely to find them in your house:
Frequent Excess Moisture in the House
Moist grounds act like breeding places for the gnats. The specific locations where you are likely to find them include spots with spilled food, wet potting soil, overwatered plants, places around leaky pipes and condensed windows.
Sweet Fruits and Vegetables Are Left Over
When you leave sweet-smelling fruits on your kitchen table or other surfaces, they are likely to attract fruit flies. The same happens to the fallen leaves in the garden.
Other Decaying Organic Materials Around
Fungus gnats are known to love rotting agricultural matter. This could be flowers and other plants. This happens because they feed on compost, mold, and other related materials. That is why they love the garden environment where they can always get exactly what they want!
Perspirations and Human’s Sweat
Moisture that secretes from humans is another cause of gnat infestation. It could be the mucus originating from the nose, the tears coming from the eyes, and other substances from the human body. Gnats also love scents of perfumes.
Just like other flies, these insects find it hard to fly into the darkness. Therefore, you often see them in places with light. That is why you see gnats swarming around light bulbs at night.
Do Gnats Bite? Here Is an Expert Response to the Question
Gnats are subdivided into two broad categories, namely the biting and non-biting gnats. Most people give the biting gnats a special name: biting midgets. Although the bites are not usually that painful, the way you feel the bite always depends on your individual body factors.
In some cases, the bite can be truly painful, causing the skin in the area surrounded by the bite to itch for many days. Sometimes, you may also feel a burning sensation.
There are also cases when bitten people stay feverish for many hours. A small percentage of people have also reported difficulty in breathing after a bite from these insects.
It is recommended to disinfect the area bitten by the gnat immediately. That can be done by cleaning using water and soap. There are also disinfectants made from vinegar that are effective.
In case you experience any form of pain, you should use effective anti-itch products. Pain relievers are also useful for such pains. Otherwise, ensure you do not come into contact with more bacteria after the bite.
There is one mystery about gnats that most people do not understand; why these insects are attracted to the eyes. Any time you are close to a swarm of gnats, they will always attempt to move towards your eyes. The reason is that these insects are attracted to moisture that is exuded from the human body, as I have already mentioned before.
Even though they may not bite you, it is easy for them to transfer some diseases to you. They do not like humans alone. Animals are also their victims.
The biting bugs are known to be common during the season of mosquitoes. That is the time when spring is about to end, and summer is about to begin. It is known that they can be active up to the very end of summer.
Are there methods to shield yourself from the gnats’ bites? When you find gnats everywhere outside, and you seem to be their target, you should find methods to protect your body. The first method is to stop exposing your skin to them. You can start by wearing long pants and shirts that cover almost all parts of your body.
Those who intend to be outside for a long time should apply the appropriate amount of gnat repellents. There is one called DEET. Those who stay in enclosed environments, such as houses, should switch on fans. Where possible, avoid the scented perfumes that can attract gnats.
How to Get Rid of Gnats Infestation Effectively
As soon as you forget to wipe sugary spills from the table, overwater the houseplants, or leave the household garbage unattended for extended periods, be prepared to deal with the gnats after a few days. The problem is that things can get worse as time goes by. For instance, you can have a full-blown infestation in a few days.
However, there is no cause for alarm. I’m here to provide the gnat control methodologies that work. The first step towards eliminating the insects is to ascertain that you are dealing with gnats. This is especially essential if you are planning to use chemical-based killers.
What works for one insect may not be useful for getting rid of another one. In any case, there are many annoying insects, and all of them require unique removal tactics.
Why does my house have gnats, and how can I control them?
Read the methods below:
Use Rotten Fruits to Lure the Gnats
The first method you need to know as you learn how to exterminate gnats in the kitchen is that you can use the things that attract these insects to trap them. How do you do this? Take a bowl and put pieces of overripe fruit like bananas inside. Cover the top of this bowl with a wrap made of plastic and ensure it is firmly in place.
Then you can create small holes on the wrap by using a sharp object like a toothpick. The smell of the fruits attracts gnats. They get into the bowls through the holes created on the cover. The gnats cannot get out of the bowl. You should leave them to die.
Although the method works, it may not be super effective in dealing with these insects. You can only kill a few of them. That means many of the gnats remain within your space.
Wine Can Also Act as a Trap for the Gnats
Another thing you should know as you work on getting rid of gnats inside is how to use wine for that purpose. However, no need to say that you should not use up your expensive wine to kill gnats. The expired wine will do. First, get a vessel where you can put the wine.
On top of that, add soapy drops. The smell of wine attracts gnats and gets them trapped within the vessel. This is another method that may not be that effective when you experience a severe infestation.
A Candle Trap Can Also Work for You
Although the method may sound old-school, it helps to eliminate the insects. It is priceless for those who are struggling with the idea of how to kill gnats in the yard. First, put your candle on the candlestick. After that, place it in a bowl with water.
Ensure it is dark and the only light in the room is the one from the candle. The reason for this is that gnats get attracted to light. The effectiveness of the method, however, depends on your alertness. You should always ensure the flame is in the right form. After you are done, you can put off the flame. The method may not work for all of the gnats.
Use a Paper Trapper for the Gnats
This is another trustworthy method for those who need to know how to kill gnats. The flypaper is made of sticky exteriors where the gnats get trapped as they fly by. You should hang the ribbon in a location with many gnats to obtain maximum results. Adhesive sheets can also be put on windows.
The Bug Zapper Option for Trapping Gnats
Apart from gnats, the method also works for the larger bugs. The biggest advantage is that you have many brands on the market. They offer the best way to get rid of gnats, as some are safe to use indoors. In simple terms, they do not affect pets or children negatively. Besides, they are odorless and do not produce any noise.
They are beneficial as they have been proven to kill most of the gnats and other insects within your home. Apart from the initial amount you spend to purchase the product, the work of this product does not require any effort from you.
When the infestation has gotten to a bad level, and you are wondering how to get rid of gnats in plants, you should consider using sprays. Although insecticides will surely work, still you should be cautious about the way you apply them and ensure you do not use them if you have children or pets. Moreover, you have to follow the directives from the manufacturer.
Application of Apple Cider Vinegar Solution
Making this solution requires several ingredients. They include apple cider vinegar, sugar, and liquid dish soap. The sugary mixture is meant to attract the gnats. Upon arrival, they are trapped by the sticky soap. Place a bowl of the mixture close to the location where you regularly notice gnats. Then you can wait for the solution to do its work.
Can You Prevent the Infestation of Gnats?
Before you begin dealing with gnats outside, you should learn how to prevent the infestation in the first place. That means you need to deal with the sources of the gnats. Are there effective methods of preventing gnats? Here are a few strategies to consider:
Dry the moist places within your home
Moist areas have an accumulation of organic materials. The places include the areas with potted plants and other hidden places that remain in a state of moisture for long. Remove such conditions so that the gnats do not have places to lay their eggs.
Repair all the leaky pipes
Leaking pipes enable accumulation of sewage, which forms an ideal breeding grounds and attraction for the gnats. That means they only need a few days for a full-blown infestation. Ensure your space does not have leaky pipes.
Proper maintenance of sewer
If you are still wondering how to eradicate gnats in drains, you should know that maintaining a good sewer system can save you from the infestation of gnats.
Do Proper Clean-up
As seen, accumulated fruits make an ideal environment for the growth of gnats. Therefore, you should get rid of all spills that can lead to the emergence of the gnats.
Reduce the moisture in the soil
If you have a habit of overwatering the pot plants, you should avoid that since it creates a condition ideal for gnats.
Gnats can cause many problems. You should be careful to ensure that you do not have a severe infestation within your space. Once you notice them within your home, use the right methods to get rid of insects as fast as you can. Do you know how to keep gnats away from plants? What Are Flying Ants and How They Look?
The flying ants you see are not a unique species. They are members of different ant species like carpenter ants, fire ants, sugar ants, and many others that develop wings when they are ready to mate.
Such ants are regarded as the reproductive members of the colony. Every ant species usually have the flying members who come out for a brief period to mate and increase their population.
The flying ants are usually made of males (drones) and females (queen). After mating, the males die while the females lose their wings and look for nests to start a new generation. It’s common to see flying ants swarming in thousands because colonies send out many flying ants at one go.
This is because only a small number out of these will survive the mating stage and start a new generation. The majority of them are eaten by predators like birds, while some end up dying from lack of food and water.
So what do flying ants look like? Well, most people confuse flying ants with termites due to their size and wings. But identifying flying ants shouldn’t be hard for you. Winged ants have a pinched body between the thorax and the abdomen, whereas termites have a straight-sided body.
Also, ants have four wings with unequal lengths with the two front wings being longer and the two back wings being shorter. The termites’ wings, on the other hand, are of equal length.
How Long Do Flying Ants Live?
The queen and the male ants are the only flying ants in a colony. The queen can live for more than ten years. Male ants, on the other hand, die shortly after mating with the queen, which is usually a day or two after the nuptial flight.
Do Flying Ants Bite?
Flying ants are relatively harmless, and they are usually interested in looking for a place to nest. As a result, they are highly unlikely to bite people.
It has been reported that some flying ants do bite or sting. These are, however, sporadic occurrences. Besides, the bits are not harmful.
What Causes Flying Ants?
Winged ants can be seen during the hot, humid weather. It’s possible to encounter these ants outdoors or even inside your house. If you notice flying ants at home, especially during the winter, it could mean there is an ant colony in your house that wants to expand. Shelter, food, and water are mostly what attracts flying ants to your home during the cold months. However, their primary goal is always to mate.
If that’s the first time you see an ant in your home or if it is during the summer, there is a likelihood the winged ant must have gotten in through an open door or window. Whatever the case, make sure you exterminate your home to prevent the winged ant from building a colony in your house.
It’s common to see swarming ants outside during the hot, humid weather. This is the time when flying insects seek to build new colonies. Make sure you prevent any flying ants infestation near your home, because if they manage to build a settlement there, they may end up damaging your property.
So do you know how to kill flying ants outside and prevent an infestation? Well, the best way to go about it is to find the nest and eradicate it. You may also have to spray bug barriers for maximum protection.
Can Flying Ants Do Damage?
Flying ants can cause substantial structural damage. Carpenter ants are the most destructive species. They punch holes in the wooden foundation of your home to create a colony. These harmful pests can burrow through the wood to make tunnels, a situation that can get ugly if they attack your furniture. In addition, if they manage to build a colony, you may have a bigger problem to deal with.
I advise you to start treating flying ants immediately you spot one. This is the best way to prevent a massive infestation as you may end up killing a queen who is about to build a colony and start a new generation in your home.
How to Get Rid of Flying Ants
While ants with wings are harmless, they can be a nuisance. Getting rid of flying ants should be a priority. There are many ways to kill these pests. In this section, I will discuss the main flying ant treatments as well as natural methods to kill ants that are readily available at home.
Main Methods
These methods are the most effective in killing flying ants. The following are some of the main techniques you can use in your home.
Baits are slow killing but extremely effective methods of getting rid of flying ants in the house. When ants pick up the poison bait, they transfer it to the colony. As soon as the queen eats the poison, it dies, and since carpenter ants cannot survive without the queen, the entire colony is eliminated eventually.
Also, ants usually make a beeline for sugary food, and other ants follow the bee-line to the source of food. This is what makes bait an effective flying ant killer.
Sprays are more toxic methods of killing flying ants inside house. These commercial insecticidal sprays kill the winged ants on contact. For the most part, sprays work best when you are dealing with a few flying ants. This is because this method can only kill one pest at a time unless you are using the sprays that leave behind a residual effect.
Flying ant sprays with residual effects are better applied around the perimeter of your home. This will kill the ants before they get into your home.
Zappers can be mounted both indoors and outdoors. These electronic devices produce very bright light to attract insects and then kill them using an electric grid. Some bug zappers also contain chemicals that kill the ants. If you are buying zappers to mount outside the house, I recommend purchasing the waterproof zappers to keep them protected from the rain.
Insecticides are effective flying ants treatment provided they are labeled for use against ants. There are different classes of insecticides, depending on how they affect the insect. Some kill on contact while others are incorporated in plants and kill the insect when it ingests the chemical found in the insecticide.
Insecticides can be toxic, so it’s essential to follow all the instructions on the labels to avoid misusing them. Failure to do so can harm humans and pets.
Natural Remedies
Natural ways of killing flying ants are usually non-toxic and keep your family members as well as pests safe. They are also less expensive compared to the main methods of ant extermination. However, natural remedies are not as effective in killing winged ants as other methods like zappers and insecticides. Read on to find out top hacks on how to get rid of winged ants using some standard natural methods.
Dish Soap
It only requires adding dishwashing soap to the water to make this spray for flying ants. Dishwashing soap usually sticks on the body of the ants and dehydrates it, killing it in the process. All you need to make this spray is dish soap, water, and a spray bottle. The good thing about this spray is that it’s non-toxic and can be used anywhere in the house without worrying about your children or pets.
Natural Peppermint
Natural peppermint makes a good spray for ants with wings. Peppermint oil works by suffocating the ants to death. The spray will work better when you mix peppermint oil with dishwashing soap and water.
Add a few drops of natural peppermint oil with water and liquid dish soap and mix thoroughly.
Use Tape to Trap the Ants
Sticky tapes also make good flying ant traps. The tapes should be placed near surfaces where these ants land to feed. Also, since flying ants like to hover around sources of lights, putting the sticky tapes near bulbs, lanterns or lamps can help you catch most of these ants.
Create a Trap Using Borax and Sugar
Borax is toxic to ants. So, you can create flying ant bait using borax and sugar. By mixing the borax with sweet-smelling sugary bait, the ants will not notice the borax. As a result, they carry it to the colony for every ant to feed. Once they feed on the borax, the queen, together with the worker ants die.
To make this trap work, make a paste of borax and sugar and place it in the infested area. This trap can be used inside the house or outside. However, ensure the borax is kept away from pets and children as it can be toxic in high dosage.
Concluding Thoughts
You can easily kill flying ants. However, the problem will not be over if you don’t destroy the colony. I advise people to identify the nest and use their preferred method of killing the flying ants. If you can find the underlying cause of the problem by killing the queen, then flying ants’ infestation will never be a problem for you. It’s important to use different ant killing products to get the desired result in a short period.

My name is Nicholas Martin, I am a consultant for private pest control agencies, and from my gained experience for the past 25 years, I am sure I will guide you with the option for choosing the best rat poison available on Amazon.
Rats’ infestation has been the greatest fear in our homes and commercial places. They cause so many diseases and destroy our valuable goods.
Most people hate these nagging creatures and would do everything in their power to eradicate them for good. I believe you feel the same, and that’s the reason you are reading this article to get to know the strongest rat poison that will kill them.
We all are aware of the effects of rats, and we must make sure they don’t affect us. Rats can bite and scratch you, leaving out disease and rat-bite fever. Through their urine, they spread leptospirosis, which leads to kidney and liver failure and other cardiovascular problems. That is why we should learn about the best rodenticide to terminate them from our homes.
What is the best rat killer? How does rat poison work? When is the best time to use it? I will try to answer all the questions with these eight best types of rat poison that I would highly recommend if you are looking for the best elimination method.
I will help you select the best one from this review of the eight best rodenticides. It will eliminate rats and make sure that you will get the complete satisfaction and exclusion of these destructive and troublesome pests.
I will tell you all about the different types of poison, bait stations, and the way to use them. You will learn their pros and cons, and it will be of great ease for you to choose one from my list.
This poison has an anticoagulant rodenticide, which is very strong, known as brodifacoum, that acts as an effective bait to kill rats. This best poison for rats kills the rodent after a few minutes, thanks to this component.
Rats multiply very fast, and before you know it, they are all over your home destroying and eating your food staff, and sometimes they can even chew your favorite outfit. This can be frustrating, and that is why you should use Havoc`s rat poison for outdoors and inside rat killing.
When they start to multiply, use the Havoc poison, as it is the best to eliminate them in large numbers. This is because the bait attracts rats to feed on it and kills with immediate effect. Set up the baits in the ceiling and rooftops and any other corner of your household where you spot them playing. This will ensure to get the whole community that made a nest in your house.
The best thing about this poison is the fact that it can be used in any season and comes with a container full of 40 packs inside. They are very effective and safe to eradicate rats and mice, and last you for long. The bait should not be placed in open areas where pets and children are as they can hurt them.
If any of your pets or people around accidentally consumed this poison, you must immediately call an ambulance and they will treat them with a specific antidote, which will probably be Vitamin K. Once the rats consume this strongest rat poison, they get dehydrated and die. In those hidden areas, it will not be smelly of the rotten creatures.
Pros:
Cons:
the poison kills almost immediately;
acts as a perfect bait as it attracts them towards the poison;
it can be used both inside and outdoors;
the quantity is well considered to last you for long;
it dehydrates the rat’s body and leaves no stinking smell.
This tamper-resistant bait station is safe to use around pets and kids in our homes. It has a design that allows it to be placed in all corners of the house. The Pro Tecta low profile is ideal for indoor use due to the triangular shape that fits in all corners of your home and also under pallets placing it where rodents tend to travel most heading to their nests.
The bait station comes with one key per order with a rod inside. It locks automatically when closed and uses a different 2-point key to open. It does not hold the rats until they die for your disposal. The rats eat the poison placed and go out only to die in their nests after a few days.
However, the bait station is bought separately with the rat poison, but you can comfortably use the remains of any other pellets if you had ever bought any. The good thing about the station is that it can be reused. Make sure to keep adding baits from time to time for it to efficiently and effectively serve you. It holds about four baits on the wire.
Pros:
Cons:
it is safe to use around kids and pets;
it is ideal for indoor use with a triangular shape to fit in the corner of your home;
the bait station can be reused over some time;
the bait station works effectively in controlling rat infestation in your home.
When rats start their invasion, they tend to multiply within a short period and before you know it, your entire household is full of very disturbing and annoying rodents. The population might be overwhelming, but with Motomco rat poison, you will have nothing to worry about.
I remember a client who owns a ranch with horses inviting me to consult him the best way to eliminate rats, which have invaded the entire ranch because of the horse food. He had tried out different poisons of various brands, but they could not take out the numbers.
I recommended Tomcat, after a week, I went back, and the rats had been drastically reduced. After a month, he called me, and he was very contented with the brand and recommended it to others in his industry.
Tomcat rat poisondeals with a high population and very severe infestation of rodents, and it takes them a minimum of 4 days for them to kill once they feed on the bait. Each chunk of this contains bromethalin, which is non-anticoagulant with a luring effect and, hence, acting as good bait. It is fast to kill than anticoagulants, and rats stop feeding after consuming it. Therefore, less poison is used to eliminate more rats.
The bait is favorable in all-weather seasons because it is manufactured with a little wax content, and it is resistant to moisture and mold. Set the bait to the preferable areas making sure that all affected regions are covered.
The chunks come with holes used to place it on rods and can be secured using wires in bait stations, in any agricultural or rural setup. This is the best pet-safe rat poison and safe for your children too.
Pros:
Cons:
it is safe to be used around our pets and kids;
it kills and it eliminates a large population of rodents;
it is suitably used for all weather;
it has holes in each chunk and can be placed on rods as baits.
Item Dimensions LxWxH: 12.35 x 13.5 x 11.35 inches
Target Species: Rats and Mice
This is a potent poison in controlling rats’ infestation during all weather. It will yield useful results to eliminate rats from your homes entirely. The Contrac will clean all, and the bait will control rats and mice with just a single feeding of the anticoagulant rodenticide with bromadiolone as an active ingredient.
While placing them, use three to six Blox in the roof ceiling, around your compound, and anywhere else where small disturbing creatures have made their nest. Always put an uninterrupted supply of the baits for a continuous two weeks non stop until you notice they have stopped feeding on them. However, the rats will still have a smell after they die in their hidden spots, but the odor will not last longer than a week.
The Bell Contrac 4 lb. bucket is enough to kill many rats in your home. However, if you plan to purchase for commercial use or a large farm area, the large size container will be operative for that. The baits have holes that use rodent bait stations that contain wire mounts.
Pros:
Cons:
it kills rats with a single feeding;
they can last for a long time to serve you more;
best used for both indoors and outdoors.
the rodents die slowly. It does not kill them immediately;
Neogen is an all-weather rat’s killer that is used inside the house but is more effectively outdoors, even in damp and rainy areas. Unlike other baits that have wax, this toxic does not have wax in its ingredient, and this makes it a powerful rat control option.

Buyer’s Guide
Types of Rat Poison
There are many types of rat poison available on the market. Some of the more common types contain anticoagulants, which cause the rat to bleed to death internally. Other types of rat poison contain toxins that damage the liver or kidneys, causing the rat to die from organ failure.
Active Ingredients
Brodifacoum
Brodifacoum is a rodenticide that is used to kill rats, mice, and other rodents. It is a very effective poison, and has a long half–life in the body of the target animal. This means that it takes a long time for the animal to break down the poison and excrete it from their system. Brodifacoum isdangerous to humans and other animals, and should only be used by trained professionals.
Bromethalin
Bromethalin is a rodenticide that works by causing neurological damage, which eventually leads to paralysis and death. Bromethalin is a relatively new rodenticide, and is becoming increasingly popular due to its high efficacy and low cost. However, bromethalin is also highly toxic to humans and other animals, and should be used with caution.
Bromadiolone
Bromadiolone is a rodenticide of the second generation. It is an anticoagulant, which means that it prevents the blood from clotting. This leads to internal bleeding and death in rodents. It is a very effective poison and is used in many commercial products. It is important to follow the directions on the label when using this poison, as it can be dangerous to humans and pets if not used properly.
Diphacinone
Diphacinone is a rodenticide that acts as an anticoagulant, causing internal bleeding and death in rodents. It is a second–generation rodenticide, and is more toxic to rodents than first–generation rodenticides. Diphacinone is a Schedule II drug in the United States, and is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Toxicity
[wpsm_box type=”warning” float=”none” textalign=”left”]
The effects of rat poison toxicity depend on the type of poison ingested and the amount consumed. If a large amount of poison is consumed, it can cause serious health problems such as internal bleeding, organ damage, and death. Rat poison is typically very bitter, so if a child or pet consumes a small amount, they may experience vomiting and diarrhea. If a large amount is consumed, it can cause seizures, coma, and death. There is no specific antidote for rat poison, so treatment focuses on supportive care and managing any symptoms that develop. [/wpsm_box]
How To Prevent Rats
The best way to prevent rats is to remove all potential food sources. Keep all food in airtight containers and make sure garbage is properly disposed of in sealed containers as well. If you have pet food, make sure it is eaten each day and not left out overnight.
If you suspect you have a rat problem, contact a pest control professional immediately.
How to Choose the Best Rat Poison
First, you‘ll want to make sure the poison is effective.
Second, you‘ll want to make sure it‘s safe to use around children and pets.
Finally, you‘ll want to make sure it‘s easy to use.
How to Use Rat Poison Safely
Always read the label carefully and follow the instructions.
Use gloves to protect your hands from poison.
Rat poison is most effective when it is used in a bait station. Bait stations are enclosed devices that allow the rat to eat the bait but prevent other animals and children from coming into contact with it.
When using rat poison, be sure to place it in areas where rats are active and where they will not be able to access food or water.
Check the bait stations regularly and remove any dead rats.
FAQ Section
How Does Rat Poison Work?
The principle of rat poison works is the same as that of poison for humans. The only difference is that in addition to the poison itself, this remedy also contains substances that attract rats. After the poison has entered the body of an animal, it has a detrimental effect on its vital organs and kills in just a couple of minutes.
What is in Rat Poison?
To kill rodents, they use a special type of pesticide — rodenticides such as naphthylthiourea, warfarin, diphenadione, brodifacoum. Studies show that they are harmless to humans. Previously, zinc phosphide, arsenic, lead and thallium compounds, phosphorus (yellow or white), and strychnine were used. Now they have been abandoned since these substances can harm not only rodents but also people.
What if your Pet Eats Rat Poison?
In fact, it all depends on the chosen remedy. Some are safe, and some can kill. If you are looking for the first option, then pay attention to less powerful options and always use bait stations t prevent cases when your pet is able to eat poison.
Do homemade baits or traps work against rats?
I know you have tried different types of baits to trap rats, but they are still not as effective as you expect. On the other hand, picking the most effective poison available will require you to use quite a number of them to get the right one that will help you to eradicate them completely.
You might have probably tried different homemade poison, like using baking powder with sugar and chocolate, and, maybe, you missed out a specific measurement. You only end up baking snacks and feeding these annoying small rodents instead of killing them. They keep multiplying in their quantity and destroying more of your valuable household belongings.
Sometimes you end up setting traps, but with their number in your attic, it makes it so difficult to terminate them effectively. You are probably not sure how many traps to set up in order to eventually kill all. Traps are also effective but only with the right bait that will lure the rats and eventually kill them. Above I covered different rat poison types, attracting lethal too that will lead them to the respective bait stations and end their numbers.

Finally, you can now comfortably select the best poison from the different brands to eradicate rats in your homes, agricultural buildings, and commercial places. After reading my article, you can decide on the best poison to kill rats and the ways to place them as baits in different rat bait stations.
Make sure to follow all the safety precautions indicated in every pack to avoid any unpleasant effects on the non-targeted subjects. The best poison for killing rats has harmful toxins, which can be detrimental to human consumption and might cause illness or even death. Make sure to see a doctor immediately if ingested by accident. Additionally, ensure effective rodent control in and around your house.
Every poison has a specific dosage, and there is a particular amount that is used to every chunk for killing rats. Different brands use different amounts, and you shouldn’t ignore the precautions just because the previous brand you used wasn’t as harmful as you had perceived. That is why I have stated in my product review the days each product takes to kill a rat.

Sometimes, pests like chipmunks, rats, and squirrels can invade other spaces around your home, especially automobiles. This could be a costly affair for you, especially if they start chewing on your car cables and other expensive gadgets in your vehicle. If you were experiencing this kind of problem, I would recommend using the Loraffe animal repellent to keep them away. It works by combining the waves and an LED light. The battery-powered repellant is designed to cause intense auditory and eyesight stress. This effectively creates an inhabitable environment for the pests.
This rodent repeller works by emitting ultrasonic waves and LED flashlights concurrently. It’s sound frequencies keep changing to ensure that the pests do not get familiar with the same sound. These frequencies range between 25 kHz and 55 kHz, meaning that you will not hear them, hence, not get distracted or disturbed. If you feel that the rodent or animal infestation around your automobiles is severe, you could apply two or more repellents to ensure that their operation cycles overlie and cover a wider area.
Based on other ultrasonic pest repeller review, this animal product is ideal for use in any automobile. Besides, it is extremely safe for use because it goes on auto standby when you start driving your vehicle. This not only enhances your safety, but it also saves the repellent’s battery. Further, the functioning of this animal repellent does not interfere with that of your vehicle. Therefore, you do not need to worry when driving with it inside your car.
Considering its portability, you can use this repellent in places other than your automobile. For example, there are probably no power outlets to use for other repellents in different spaces like the garage or attic. The idea is that this repellant has been designed to use alkaline batteries that should be replaced after every 45 days. Another thing I like about this Loraffe animal repellent is how easy it is to mount. It comes equipped with a toolbox containing a screwdriver, 16 zip ties, and a user’s manual to guide you on how to place it on a convenient location.
Pros:
Cons:
it is portable and easy to mount;
can be used to repel pests in spaces without power outlets;
safe for use around all automobile types.
you have to keep replacing the batteries.
5. Grafken Ultrasonic New Pest Control Set – Best Outdoor Ultrasonic Pest Repeller
Besides harboring potential diseases and viruses, pests like rats can be destructive because they chew on hard things to keep their teeth filled. They can easily leave your furniture, clothing, and even wiring apparatus around your house damaged. If these and other pests like fleas, cockroaches, and flies have become a menace in your home, get yourself this ultrasonic pest reject device by Grafken. With this product, you do not need to worry about your house being too big for a repellant to work effectively.
It is the best ultrasonic pest repeller for rats because no matter where they hide within an area of 1200 square feet, it will still work against them. For optimum working, ensure that you have placed the repellent away from obstacles like curtains or a fridge as well as any other kind of furniture that could interfere with the transmission of the ultrasound waves. If you have a serious pest or rodent infestation, I would advise that you place several of the repellers in the different rooms to effectively eliminate them.
If you dislike chemical pest repellents that produce smells that irritate you and your pets, then Grafken electronic pest control may be the repellant you are looking for. It is safe for use around your pets because it produces no smell. Also, its noise-free nature makes it a repellant of choice for those people who are distracted by sounds during the night. The only noises it produces are those meant to be heard by pests. This is why it comes with a more powerful chip that lowers the pests’ immunity towards ultrasonic technology.
Even so, I would not recommend that you purchase this specific repeller by Grafken if your problem with pests is urgent. This is because you are unlikely to notice any changes until 3 to 4 weeks. For the first 3 to 5 days, you will most likely see that the pests are still active in your home. After two weeks, however, you might notice a decline in their number. However, this possible weakness comes with its advantages too. It minimizes the burden of cleaning up the rodent and pests it has killed.
Target Species: Rodents, Rats, Mices, Squirrels and other pests
Other ultrasonic pest repeller reviews will tell you that if you are hoping to achieve a double repellent effect against pests and rodents on your property, 70K repellant would be an ideal choice. I would have to agree with them on this. The double effect comes from its two speakers that emit ultrasonic sound waves that cause distress to the mice and other pests.
Each of the speakers is designed to produce varying sound waves for minimizing the habituation effect among the pests. Thus, this repeller is suitable for use in other spaces like schools and hospitals included. For larger spaces, you might need two or more of these devices because one covers an area between 10 and 465 square meters.
An additional feature to this repeller is the adjustable frequencies, which you can change depending on the graveness of the problem at hand. These frequencies can be adjusted within the range of 20,000 Hz to 60,000 Hz. Higher frequencies mean that you are targeting larger pests like rats and mice, while the lower ones could be directed to bugs and spiders. Besides, it is not a hard device to operate. You need to read the user instructions and leave it to work.
If you have a cockroach infestation, you can still rely on this ultrasonic repeller because it eliminates them too. With this device, you no longer have to be troubled by your harvest’s safety. Besides, its functioning is not enhanced by any toxic chemicals or substances. Thus, the integrity of the products you have stored in the cellars is not affected by your reliance on this product. Also, you can use it comfortably around your pets and children.
This repeller by 70K is also an economical pest control method because you will not need additional chemicals pesticides even when faced with severe pest or rodent infestations. It also consumes an insignificant amount of power, meaning that your electricity bill will not rise considerably.
Pros:
Cons:
it has two speakers for a double repellent effect;
Perhaps you already have an automobile and an indoor ultrasonic pest repellent but requires one that is suitable for the outdoors. Look no further than this repeller by Lovhome. This outdoor ultrasonic pest repeller functions continuously once you turn it on. It comes with a PIR sensor that causes the red-LED light to turn on when it detects some motion from a pest.
It then sends strong sound waves for some seconds, thereby causing discomfort to the animals invading your garden. It is also an economical choice of repeller because it relies on solar energy for functioning. The solar energy recharges its batteries. Thus, electricity bills will not be a cause of concern for you with this outdoor animal repeller.
It works not only on rodents, but this best electronic pest repeller also sends snakes, birds, and raccoons away from your homestead. Besides, it does not rely on any chemical substances to function. Hence, it is friendly to the environment. It is highly unlikely that you will also encounter the bodies of dead animals around this repeller because it works to make them uncomfortable and sends them away. Also, since no chemicals are involved in this repeller’s functioning, it means that you are comfortable when handling it.
Since it is a repeller designed to function outside the house, it is prone to changing weather conditions. Even so, with this Lovhome repeller, this is not something you will have to worry about. This is because it is made using an anti-ultraviolet material, which protects it from damage during sunny weather. Besides, this material is also water-resistant, meaning that rainy weather will not destroy it.
Pros:
Cons:
suitable for outdoors;
repels many animals including birds and snakes;
made using an impervious and anti-UV material.
its batteries are in-built and cannot be replaced.
8. Neatmaster Dual Microchip – Pet Friendly Ultrasonic Pest Repeller
If rodents and other pests have been a nuisance in your home, you should consider this repellent from Neatmaster. It is prudent that you take action immediately because infected mice, for example, can bring diseases into your home. You can use this pest control ultrasonic repeller not only against rodents but also against other troublesome insects and pests like mosquitoes and cockroaches.
If you have had an encounter with bedbugs, you understand how uncomfortable sleeping and even sitting around the infested furniture can be. But with this ultrasonic repeller, you can finally start experiencing the comfort that has long been missing in your home.
To use this repellent, you will first connect it into an electric power source and switch it on. You can place this Neatmaster repeller in various convenient locations within your home. For example, if pests are in your kitchen, put it there. If they are in the basement or attic, take it there and connect to the source of power.
You only need to ensure that you have placed it where furniture or walls will not suppress the noise it produces. It has an inbuilt dual microchip system whose work is to send ultrasound waves that disorient or confuse the pests. You can notice them moving in random directions before they eventually succumb to death.
If you have pets like dogs and cats in your house, there is no reason to be alarmed when using this repeller. The sound it produces will not be loud enough for you or your pets to hear. Also, it generates no smell. Hence, you need not worry when using it around your pets and children. Nevertheless, I would advise that if there are some pets in your house, keep them away from this device because it could cause them discomfort.
If you want maximum frequency, switch it to the red mode and green mode for light frequencies when your infestation is minimum. Further, it consumes a small amount of power and, thus, do not inflate your electricity bills.
Pros:
Cons:
comes with three different intensity modes with corresponding light colors;
can repel a variety of pests;
harmless to pets.
unsuitable for outdoor use.

10. Crioxen Ultrasonic 5-in-1 Repeller 一 Indoor Plug-in Repeller for Large Areas
No products found.
Specifications:
Color: White
Power consumption: 2 W
Coverage Area: of 2000 sq ft
Item Dimensions: 5.1 x 3.5 x 3.0 inches
Target Species: Mices, Cockroaches, Ants, Spiders, Fleas and Mosquitoes
If you are looking for a safe, multifunctional instrument suitable for large areas, then the Crioxen Ultrasonic 5-in-1 Repeller is worth a look. It repels squirrels, mice, and other small rodents effectively and is also excellent at dealing with almost all insects that may crawl into your house.
An ultrasonic device is the most eco-friendly way to get rid of pests. The reason is it doesn’t kill them but only scares them away, making your home uninhabitable and keeping the local ecosystem in balance. Also, you don’t have to clean out dead insects. Plus, it is completely silent, non-toxic, safe for pets and children.
This item is easy to use and customize. It is compact (11×4.5 inches), so it will fit into any 60HZ / 100-120V outlet. Just place it in the desired location and choose fixed or variable waves. As you know, pests can adapt over time to a set frequency. To prevent this from happening, change the settings periodically to ensure that the device remains effective. You can also turn off the LED backlight if, for example, it bothers you at night.
One unit is designed for an area of up to 2000 square feet. When buying, keep in mind that upholstered furniture, curtains, and carpets partially absorb ultrasonic waves. If there is a lot of furniture in a room, it can significantly reduce the product’s effectiveness.
Besides, even though ultrasound passes through walls, they also reduce the repellent effect. So if you need to get rid of pests in several rooms at once, it is recommended to either remove your upholstered furniture or buy one product for each room (based on an approximate calculation of one unit per 600 square feet).
Also, remember that ultrasonic devices do not have an instant effect like insecticides. It will take some time for pests to realize that your house is unsuitable for living and leave it. On average, it takes about 20 days. You plug the device into an outlet, and it does its job, creating a 24/7 security barrier. It does not overheat and has an unlimited lifespan.
Pros:
Cons:
large coverage;
universal;
easy to use and customize.
for indoor use only.
11. AMZ BRAND Ultrasonic Pest Repeller – Ultrasonic Mouse Repeller
This product works well not only against mice, but it is also among the best ultrasonic pest repeller for ants. A quality product by AMZ BRAND that is designed to provide a triple impact against the pests that invade your home. The triple impact comes from its ultrasonic, electromagnetic, and negative ions options. The ultrasonic alternative means that the sound from the repeller is only audible to the pests.
Its ultrasonic system has a range of frequencies whose intensity has been magnified to ensure that all pests are out of your home. Your job is to decide the rate you prefer based on the pest infestation problem at hand. For example, the one band frequency option will send a super electromagnetic ultrasonic to deter vermin, and a two-band frequency will generate a powerful ultrasonic for the same purpose. These multi frequencies are meant to ensure that rodents and pests around your home do not become unaffected by the sounds, hence giving you an upper hand in their control.
The negative ions option is designed to purify the air around your home so that it is safer to breathe. Negative air ions are used for the removal of particles from the air. Further, its working is not interfered with by obstacles like furniture and walls as the sound it produces can pass through them. It can also cover large spaces of up to 2000 square feet, hence, ideal for large homeowners.
Unlike physical traps that limit your movement around the area where they are placed, this repeller is non-invasive. Stepping on a trap meant for a rodent, for example, will cause you pain. However, when using this ultrasonic repeller, your movement is unlimited because it is only plugged into a power source. Also, it produces no noise or smell. Hence, you will barely remember that it is there.

5. Talstar – Best Pro Outdoor Ant Repellent Spray
No products found.
This is a very strong and powerful insecticide that contains bifenthrin that is commonly used in most insecticides. The residual effect lasts for 3 months, repelling and acting as a barrier so no ants can get into your place.
Talstar is used both indoor and outdoor, but it should be mostly used outdoor as it acts as a barrier around the house perimeter. It is truly significant in reducing the population of ants around your house. The bifenthrin chemical is very harmful to pets and children; hence, it should not be used around them.
Talstar is not very easy to use, but you can follow the instructions, and you will be good to go. You need to dilute 1.0 oz of the Talstar insecticide in one gallon of water. Apply the solution from the dilution to cracks, crevices, and other areas where you have spotted the colony and trails of ants.
The best target should be the ants’ nest to treat the ants’ infestation completely. You should always re-apply Talstar insecticide every two months to make sure that you deter all ants and other insects from coming back.
Pros:
Cons:

acts as a repellent and a barrier;
can be used both indoors and outdoors;
best used for commercial and noncommercial purposes.
Talstar insecticide is very harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin;

not easy to use.
FAQ Section
How Does Ant Spray Kill Ants?
All sprays for ants or other insects killing contain special chemicals, such as boric or borax acid, that are harmful to insects. Imagine, a spray for ants is like a nuclear bomb for humans.
Death occurs almost instantly. Moreover, the action from the bomb continues to last even after it is dropped. The same thing happens with the spray effect: it continues to be fatal for the ants for several more weeks.
How Long Does Ant Spray Smell Last?
It all depends on the manufacturer. Sometimes the smell can last for several days. My recommendation is to choose organic substances without a strong smell. They can cost a little more, but they do not provide such harm to human health.
How Safe Is Professional Ant Spray?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions. I can’t say that all professional sprays are safe, however, most of them are absolutely harmless not only for adults and children but even for your pets ( not if they’re ants, of course :)) Take a look at Mdxconcepts Organic Home Pest Control and Ortho remedies.

Have you had enough with the rats? If yes, then it’s time to get an effective bait or station for trapping these mischievous creatures. It should be easy for you to identify the best products for this purpose after going through my reviews of them below.
I understand that rats are a nightmare, and you want them out of your garden or home quickly. Nonetheless, before I offer you the solutions, it is only right that you first get acquainted with me. In that regard, my name is Nicholas Martin, and I am an entomologist.
In my profession, daily responsibilities include insect surveys and offering a private consultation to pest control agencies. Urban and agricultural pests are my fields of specialization, having studied their control over the past 25 years.
With that cleared out, below, I offer my honest and in-depth assessments of the best rat baits and bait stations available. This information is particularly useful if you, like me before, have trouble with rodents in your home or garden. Let’s get started, shall we?
Before we get into the specific rodent traps and bait stations, note, the effectiveness of each product depends on the type of rat (is it a Norway rat, roof rat, etc.?). In line with that, today, the different types of rodent baits on the market are blocks and bars, pelletized baits, gel baits, and food baits.
That said, several rodent baits exist. You can acquire one that meets your needs from online stores, neighborhood retailers, and supermarkets. However, the real problem will arise when it comes to selecting the right product, given the numerous options or suggestions you will come across when shopping.
To help you out, I review the best products on the market below, arranging them from top-rated items to less effective ones. Each of my assessments consists of a brief description, information about the brand, and a list of pros and cons.
These bait chunks deliver a killer dose to Norway rats, roof rats, house rodents, and warfarin-resistant Norway rats in just one night of feeding. When it comes to administering them, users are required to use the product either inside or outside of agricultural premises. This product should never be applied further than fifty feet from the before-mentioned establishments.
Regarding longevity, you can count on the bait lasting for long, given that it has traces of S-Methoprene that keeps insects from hurling around and eating chunks. From the day of administration, expect the first dead rats to appear anywhere after four or five days.
The active ingredient in this product is Bromadiolone, making it quite a potent poison. As such, children, pets, and other animals should never be exposed to this item. Store the product in a safe location, away from the reach of non-target beings. If it used outside and above the ground, then it should be put in the best rat bait station you can find to ensure that pets, children, and other animals do not come into contact with the poison.
This product is manufactured by Farnam, in Phoenix, Arizona. It is shipped in an eight-pound container that packs sixty-four, two-ounce chunks. The contents have pecked ridges, thus enticing the rodents to chew the poison. In order to make the chunks suitable for use in a rat bait box, there is a mounting hole in the middle.
All told, this is a lethal product. Therefore, it is essential to heed all the directions for use at the back of the container. I highly recommend it for use in agricultural establishments.
Pros:
Cons:
it delivers a killer dose in one feeding;
perfect size for big bait stations;
it stays intact during the wet months;
it has a pleasant odor;
rats can’t carry the chunks away.
a bit pricey.
2. Redtop Rat & Rodent Bait: Best Outdoor Rat Bait Stations
Universal: For use of any type of rodent bait, including bait blocks
Item Weight: 2.87 pounds
Item Dimensions LxWxH: 13.23 x 8.27 x 7.91 inches
Target Species: Rats and Mice
These bait stations for rats come in a pack of two to help get rid of rats faster. Redtop, known for making all kinds of pest and vermin control traps, produces this tamper-resistant and double lock secured box to kill rats and other small rodents.
It’s great for outdoor use as it is built from robust material and can be attached to most structures. And it’s weatherproof – you don’t have to worry about weather conditions messing up with the bait. You can place it along your walls if you are to trap rats in your house. Its compact design makes it ideal for use in a variety of baiting locations.
What makes this product the best pack rat bait holder is that it works well with any type of baits – from pellets to bait chunks. You can place your bait on either the wire prongs or the tray (for liquid poison) that is provided inside the box.
These stations are made of solid hard plastic that is not easy to break even when a lot of weight is placed on it. Once you screw it to a permanent structure, dogs or pets cannot tamper with it.
There are two holes on each side of the box. While the holes are large enough for roof and garden rats to fit, bigger animals cannot tamper with the box or at worse, eat from the bait. To add to its safety, this station comes with two locks that require two keys to open.
I found that you can use a screwdriver to open or order another key if you lose your original key. What makes this box the best bait to catch a rat is its overall ease to use, durability, excellent design, and its compatibility with different types of poison.
Pros:
Cons:
sturdy & long-lasting;
extra-secure latches;
it comes with vertical & horizontal rods;
it includes bait wires & tray;
relatively inexpensive.
it takes two keys to open.
3. Tomcat Bait Chunx: Best Anticoagulant Poison Bait for Rats
The Tomcat rat bait packs Bromethalin as the active ingredient, making it an effective product for managing severe rodent infestations. When it comes to the speed of kill, once applied, this poison wipes out rats and mice within two or more days.
For this reason, the Tomcat chunks have proven to be way faster at killing intrusive and destructive rodents compared to other anticoagulant baits. Also, due to the quick kill, this chunk makes it possible to manage more rats while applying way less product.
The design of the chunks is edgy, thus, making them quite appealing to rats as they like to peck at things. All contents are made out of food-grade ingredients and negligible paraffin to make chews that appeal to rodents. But perhaps, the thing I love the most about this product is that a single block can knock out an average of twelve rodents.
Tomcat rat bait chunks come in a four-pound container. It has an excellent sealing capability, thus making it a pet-safe rat bait when appropriately stored after use. After taking their bite, rodents are bound to stop eating further, thus enabling you to kill more rats without having to rush to the store to buy more chunks.
Monster Pets is manufactured only in the USA. As such, you can count rest assured that the item is produced within the specifications of American law. In case you are wondering how you will use it, then you can read the detailed instructions at the back of the container. The information will guide you on everything, from application areas to follow up procedures.
This product should be used in rural or agricultural environments.
Pros:
Cons:
a perfect balance of palatability and effectiveness;
At 13 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 9 inches deep, this Protecta LP rat and rodent station is one of the most popular bait stations for dealing with rodent infestations. It features a lockable design – locks when you press the lid down – to keep children as well as pets away from the bait.
There are two locks that you can open with a two-prong key that comes with the package. To unlock it, use the key provided to open each lock at a time.
The station comes in a triangular shape, which is great when you want something that fits in tight corners and spaces where rats like to live. It is also made from durable plastic material, which makes it a durable alternative for long time use. Inside the box are a bait tray and rod.
You can remove the rod and hook your bait on it before inserting it back to its original position. You can attach more than one bait block on the hook. Once the bait is in place, press the lid down until you hear a snap, which signifies that the box is now locked.
There are two large holes on either side of the box for easy entry and exit, which make it one of the best roof rat bait stations. It can be placed flat on the ground or in a vertical position along a wall or rodent path. Just ensure neither of the holes is blocked.
With the right bait, I found this station to be effective in baiting and killing the smallest rodents, including mice, voles, and rats. You can place it inside as well as outside – make sure you secure it in place when using outdoors so that larger animals such as raccoons don’t drag it away.
If you are considering rat bait blocks, then this is the product for you. It is the best bait for rats, given its peanut butter flavor that appeals to rodents in masses. As a result, with this irresistible rat bait, you will manage to kill many rodents by administering only a few blocks, thanks to a higher nibble-rate. This rat killer is an anticoagulant, making it an excellent choice for knocking down rodents during serious infestations.
Diphacinone, the active ingredient in the product, enables it to wipe out all small rodents within only a few days on ingesting. It is the best rat bait for your basement or garage and comes with a one-year warranty that covers you against material and quality issues.
JT Eaton, a family-owned and operated company, manufactures these effective rodent-killing blocks. When I ordered this product, I received it in a pail with a white lid. The sides had black and writings as well as an orange surface with white writings. It does not go without mentioning that the writings are quite legible, meaning you will understand how to use the blocks effectively; info given is mostly usage instructions.
The product comes in a nine-pound container that holds one hundred and forty-four one-ounce blocks. From my experience, I highly recommend this item for home use, especially the garage and basement.
Pros:
Cons:
peanut butter flavor that entices rodents to bite;
active Diphacinone for killing smaller rats.
it takes time to kill rodents.
6. 6 Protecta Sidekick Tamper Proof Rat Bait Stations
If you are looking for something that is durable that you can use for both monitoring and baiting annoying rodents, these Tamper-proof bait stations from Protecta are a good choice. ProTecta is well known on the market and produces a lot of bait stations in different designs and sizes.
These stations are quite similar to the Protecta LP. Both types are black, made from durable material, and lockable. However, the Protecta Sidekick has rounded edges- for easy cleaning- and rectangular shape as opposed to the triangular shape of the Protecta LP.
I also find it to be the most effective rat bait if you have a rat infestation, and you want to put in taller or more bait in the station. In this case, you can stack bait on top of each other. Each can hold up to about two pounds of bait. And you get six of these stations in one purchase.
The stations are very easy to use. Each comes with four vertical rods- you can put all of them at a time- which help to hold your bait blocks in place. And since these rods are quite firm, they minimize the risk of exposure to your pets or kids. Once the bait is inside, secure the lid and place your station wherever rats like to dwell: in corners, along walls, on your fence line, on the roof, etc. When it’s locked, this station is resistant to all kinds of tampering. As such, it works well for both indoor and outdoor use.
Apart from bait, these stations are also designed to hold the Snapper T-Rex Snap Trap. They also have slots that are built to hold the manufacturer’s service card. They also come with a key for easy opening. You can buy an extra key from Protecta if you want. The hinges that ensure easy locking and unlocking are also quite durable and can’t easily be fractured. The station locks when you close it to ensure the safety of those around you.
Pros:
Cons:
it can hold a lot of poison;
accommodate T-Rex snap traps;
it made of sturdy tamper-resistant molded plastic;
child and pet-proof.
it come with only one key;
need to be a little elevated when used outside in the rain.
FAQ Section
How Do Rat Bait Stations Work?
Rat bait stations are small, completely inconspicuous boxes that can be placed in any part of the room. Inside them, there is poison, which, by smell and taste, is almost indistinguishable from real rodent food. Once inside, the mouse eats the bait and dies almost immediately. You can use such stations many times, just remember to constantly clean them.
What Is In Rat Bait?
Rat bait consists of some rodenticide mixed with substances that attract rats. Usually, it’s a mix of phosphides and rodent yummies. Unlike mice traps, the bait stations are not adapted to catch mice. Their main task is to let the rodents eat poison, which will kill them almost immediately after they leave the station.
What If Your Pet Eats Rat Bait?
Most stations contain very strong poison inside, which will be deadly for your animal too. However, each rat station has certain protective measures. For example, entering holes with a width that is enough for mice to penetrate, but not enough for a cat or a dog.
Did you notice rats running around your house or yard? Rats, mice, and other rodents can quickly make your life and that of your family unbearable. They will eat and destroy anything they can get their hands on. So, it’s never too early to take measures to control the situation. A budget-friendly alternative to hiring an exterminator is to buy a rat or mice station and bait blocks/chunks.
Our top recommendation of best rat killer bait is Farnam Just One Bite chunks. For bait holders or stations, Redtop Stations are an ideal choice. The other products mentioned are also good alternatives depending on what your budget is, the features you are looking for, and your brand preferences.
While choosing a bait holder, make sure you check if it is durable, easy to use, and safe. No one else – including toddlers and pets – should be able to access it except the targeted animals. Have you used rat/ mice bait and stations? What is the best rat bait judging from your experience? Would you recommend any of the products I have reviewed? I would like to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to leave a comment below.

Pests form an essential part of the ecosystem, but at times, they pose a significant threat to many people’s way of living.
Fire ants are effective outside as they feed on other insects. They are essential when the pests they feed on are the harmful lots that work tirelessly to deny you a bountiful harvest. However, when close to your home, oils and sugars may quickly draw them into the house.
Their stings gave them the name “fire ants,” and I know they aren’t much of the friendly lot you want to be frequently visiting. Their harmful effects have compelled me to come up with a guide to educate you on how to get rid of fire ants in your yard with ease and what fire ant killers to use.
Reviewing the Best Way to Get Rid of Fire Ants
If you are wondering how to kill fire ants outside, here are multiple ways of dealing with these, at times, disturbing bugs. The methods vary in efficiency, cost, and ease of applicability. Analyzing the different techniques accessible will enable you to pick the most suitable one that meets your needs. But before that, let’s get familiar with fire ants.
What Are Fire Ants and How Do They Look?
Fire ants are known for their dull red body and the painful stings they inflict. They are six-legged and have a pair of antenna. They likewise have a stinger. Fire ants have a segmented body that takes an oval shape. They are common in the southern part of the U.S. They nest in the soil in open grounds or near buildings.
Many people refer fire ants as insects that bite human beings, but that’s not the case. A fire ant stings instead. The stings are painful, and the effect is more severe to those allergic to animal “bites.”
But, what would prompt the pests to attack you?
Many people get the wrath of these small creatures when they accidentally or intentionally disturb them in their hives. Fire ants live in large numbers, and interfering with the nest will leave you nursing multiple stings.
What Other Damage Do Fire Ants Cause?
From invading plantations and grass, fire ants can cause more harm than good. When they live near a building, they can easily attack during the rainy seasons and end up seriously injuring children and the elderly. Nevertheless, that is not all. Fire ants have been known to make their mounds, which end up damaging mowing equipment.
Besides that, they are easily drawn by electric currents, and they end up making a nest in switches. By doing so, they easily lead to short-circuiting, which in turn leads to fire break out. They significantly damage telephone lines and transformers. Thus, fire ant control is crucial.
How to Get Rid of Fire Ants Permanently – Four of the Best Methods
When analyzing the best options when it came to getting rid of fire ants, I found baits and insecticides to be the most efficient method. The use of slow baits makes it possible to infect a large number of ants, including the queen, thus perfectly taming their reproduction. The option, however, takes a while to work, but when it does, the problem is solved once and for all.
Sprays, traps, and natural remedies are less effective but also an option to consider given their diversified use. The main con on these methods is that you won’t be in a position to stop their breeding, and thus, the problem will bounce back after a while.
How to Get Rid of Fire Ant Hills Using Insecticides
A known trait in insecticides is their speed of action as they suit killing fire ants instantly. The only problem is you do not get a chance to suppress the colony since it is hard for insecticides to reach the ants’ breeding core.
All in all, if you are wondering how to get rid of fire ants in the house, insecticides should be the first option to consider. You will be required to drain the treat deep the mound to ensure it hits the central target that is the queen. Fairly, when taking such a step, it is wise to put on protective clothing to prevent the “guarding” fire ants from getting the best of you.
However, using the item over a long period and killing the visible ants will work as a driving force as the rest may be compelled to look for sanctuary elsewhere. Most liquid insecticides contain Fiprinol and Pyrethroids. The only challenge is the way their effect doesn’t last for long. They are likewise easily washed away by rain.
Dust insecticides have almost a similar composition as liquid insecticides. They, however, edge over liquid insecticides as they have a longer-lasting effect. When eliminating ants, look for those dust sprays that are waterproof.
This will enable you to use the item in almost all settings, including outdoor. It will also not get washed away as a result of rain. You can cover the nest with the dust because that’s how to kill fire ant mounds swiftly. Besides killing, it acts as an insect repellent with an 8-month lasting effect.
The products are perfect to use on many insects, thus offering a solution on how to get rid of red ants. They contain Fipronil and Pyrethroids as the main ingredients. They are a better choice but require use with bait for a complete fire ant extermination.

It is easier than you think! I have researched on fruit flies, and thus I have compiled the most effective approaches of removing them near your area.
What Are Fruit Flies and How Do They Look?
As the name suggests, fruit flies are a family of insects with a high attraction to organic material more so fruits lying in various areas ranging from kitchen bowls, store shelves to the ones ripening in gardens. They don’t need a particular condition to breed as they find drains, garbage, and trash, among others, as their conducive survival places that can support their existence.
The question, “where do fruit flies come from” is quite challenging since the insects appear suddenly more so in the presence of a cut-open fruit or vegetable. These are tiny mysterious insects that form in thin air and can be bothersome in your environment all summer long, especially when there’s a fruit season.
However, what you didn’t know is that fruit flies are a family of the ordinary housefly Drosophila melanogaster with precise aspects that distinguish it from the other species. For instance, it has a black abdomen, red eyes, and tan thorax, which identifies the species as unique. Their name is attributed to their potent attraction to rotting fruits as their feeds and also a place of laying their eggs. They undergo a metamorphosis that sees the egg transform into larvae, pupa, and lastly, adult. That’s the process of how they come into existence.
Moreover, the adult fly has a life expectancy of 40-50 days and reaches a typical length of about 3 to 4 mm. While it is believed that they are more active during the fall harvest, they are probable to surviving indoors provided that the conditions available favor their survival. However, these insects can be a bothersome pest to the house owners or groceries that they invade for breeding habitat.
Do Fruit Flies Bite? Find Out Here
The fact that these insects breed on fermenting fruits, they do not feed on blood. What’s more, their mouth structure cannot aid biting. Hence, they don’t bite at all.
Where Do Fruit Flies Come From? Conditions That Promote Fruit Flies
Identifying the cause is a procedure of preventing and realizing the causal agent of these flies. It is going a long way toward curbing their future return. Here is a peek of prospective causes of fruit flies that you probably didn’t know:
The Smell of Trash
Are you aware that the trash you bank in your home despite its quantity is among the primary elements considered as what causes fruit flies? They have a great sense of smell. Hence, flies move straight towards the scent and, finally, land on the trash, which seemingly smells delicious to them. Therefore, whenever you make a salad, the unwanted pieces of leftovers from organic material lure these flies the most.
For instance, in your bin at home, these flies will be all over on the waste of avocados, tomatoes, onions, among others. So, these highly organic materials are the elements that make the process of getting rid of fruit flies complicated with such trash available.
Fruit flies use their incredible sense of smell to detect stains and pills around homes. Therefore, uncleaned messes in houses lure these flies, hence, form a conducive breeding habitat for these insects.
Open Doors and Windows
Have you experienced fruit fly infestation before? If you have, then you have an apparent reason not to leave your door or window open. Whenever you seal all the kinks that can let fruit flies in house you live in, you are preventing their existence. Ensure that there is no space left to give them way inside your place and cut them off completely.
Pursuing a Conducive Hatching Ground
The first reason why a fruit fly gains access into your kitchen is in search of a conducive hatching environment. Fruits and vegetables attract them since they provide the best breeding place that allows flies to lay eggs, feed, and also hatch their young ones. Therefore, hatching habitat is among the primary elements of what attracts fruit flies into homes.
Moreover, just as a hen needs a good supply of feeds to lay eggs, female fruit flies need a constant amount of food too to lay their eggs. Unfortunately, its food is in our supermarkets, grocery stores, kitchens, and even our gardens. They land on fruits for regular food supply to hatch and complete their metamorphosis.
Setting with Warmer Temperature
The metamorphosis and breeding of fruit fly depend on the warmer temperature. This is a reason they are hardly seen during cold temperatures. In fact, during the cold periods, it is believed that the adult fly dies, and the yet to be hatched eggs remain frozen, hence, preserved until the next spring.
Even though the assumption is not valid, it is close to the truth. During the cold period, these flies undergo a hibernation-like process known as diapause. At this time, these insect’s growth is arrested in every metamorphosis stage, froze until the period when the temperatures are warm enough to provide a conducive environment to feed and remain active.

Use of appropriate fruit fly sprays
Since these insects have a short reproduction cycle, the possibility of multiplying rapidly is very high. However, you should come up with a solution as fast as possible before their infestation by getting to know what kills fruit flies effectively.
The best elimination method that curbs the pandemic instantly is using appropriate insecticides, for example, pyrethrin. Therefore, identify the infested place within your surroundings, put on protective gear to prevent the toxic chemical reaching your skin. Pyrethrin aerosol is among the most effective fruit fly killer.
Moreover, before buying a spray for your pests, consider some aspects such as odor, its indoor effects, and, most importantly, killing impact. CB80 Pyrethrum aerosol is one best thing to kill fruit flies with, and it is shelved in many stores and agro vets. It kills within three seconds. Therefore, it is among the most important ways of how to kill fruit flies fast in an infested area within your vicinity.
The use of zapper with ultraviolet light
A bug zapper used indoors when in good condition is a reliable method of controlling these annoying flies. It uses the ultraviolet light to lure these insects into the charged electric grid that kills these flies through electrocution, hence zapping them. The dead flies drop on a removable tray soon-cleaned with the bugs dumped.
Natural Methods of Eliminating Fruit Flies
Even though no one wishes to have these annoying flies at the comfort of their houses, once you bring in organic material such as fruits, you are sending the flies an open invitation. Eliminating bothersome flies does not only require artificial methods. Here are natural procedures that may be effective even though not as potent as the professional methods.
Using carnivorous plants
Since fruit flies have a strong sense of smell, they quickly fly towards fermented fruits and wines. Therefore, use fermented wine. Pour it over a carnivorous plant, for example, the carnivorous sundew plant. The fermented grape juice odor in fermented wine attracts the flies to the plant, and then they are stuck in the plant’s sticky leaves.
The flies are caught when they get in contact with the plant’s leaves. If you are puzzled with how to catch fruit flies fast, be sure that the use of carnivorous sundew will be more effective.
Drown the fruit flies with candle trap
This type of bait requires darkness and a source of light. Therefore, wait until darkness prevails, and then put a lighting candle on a jar full of water. Put the candle bait near the target area. The availability of light lures these flies. The candlelight will burn their wings.
Hence, flies fall in the trapped water and sink to their death. Also, the candlelight will reflect in the liquid, therefore, showing the flies the direction into the water, thus drowning them. Wondering how to get rid of fruit flies in the house that is heavily infested? Drowning the insects is a reliable yet costless measure you can use.
Using sticky traps
Controlling a real fruit fly pandemic requires a yellow flytrap to deal with the infestation. However, for the procedure to be effective, you should entice these flies using either a fermented vinegar or rotten fruits. Once these insects land on the sticky bait, they get stuck. It is a reliable way to catch infested fruit flies in the bathroom.
Fruit flies are highly sensitive, hence, easily enticed by fermented fruits. Therefore, to lure them into your trap, use highly scented grape wine or rotten fruit as bait placed in a bowl full of water. The container should be wrapped with a plastic bag on the top.
Poke some holes in the plastic wrap placed on top of the water-filled jar. The flies will be attracted to the bowl, but since the holes are small, they will remain trapped inside the bowl, and later sink in the water and die. Therefore, catching fruit flies needs no sophisticated equipment. The natural method works best.
Plant basil around your home
Basil plant is herb with an intense scent that irritates fruit fly. Upon sniffing the smell of basil plant leaves, the flies with no haste scram away. Therefore, anytime you go to the grocery and grab some fruits and vegetables, you can pluck basil plant leaves to cover them, hence, keeping fruit flies away.
Moreover, you can put the basil plant leaves in an open bowl together with your fruits. It can be more advantageous to have a live basil plant in your home at the place affected the most with the flies. The strong aroma of the herb leaves will make the flies scram and never come back so long as the plant is still be around.
Tidy your surrounding after a meal
Do you know how to get rid of fruit flies in drain, for example, in your bathroom or kitchen? Organic wastes that can be collected on the kitchen and bathroom sink drain provide a conducive breeding environment of these flies. How about tidying up the sink? A clean sink drain will provide no smell that may attract the flies to your habitat.
You should clean dishes immediately after a meal to prevent the flies from being attracted to your drain. After eating fruit salad or vegetables, take the waste directly to the trash bin. What’s more, keep your highly organic foods such as fruits in the refrigerator.
The environment inside a fridge is freezing, therefore does not give the pests a conducive habitat to breed. As soon as they find their way in the freezer, the harsh temperatures give them a hard time to survive.
Control Methods That Keep Fruit Flies Away from Your Home
Even though sometimes killing these flies can be a challenge, there are some home-based remedies to keep them away. Get a glimpse of some of the procedures to ensure to prevent them from coming your way.
Cover trash bins, cans, and bags
Since fruit flies are highly sensitive to smell, an aroma of rotting organic substance attracts them the most. Therefore, whenever you cover your trash can, the smell won’t get its way outside, hence, it helps in keeping the flies away.
Keep your environment (kitchen & bathroom) dry
Fruit flies mostly thrive in damp and moist environments. Therefore, if you keep the area near you dump and wet, you are simply inviting these bothersome flies. Therefore, ensure that your kitchen and bathroom are dry by identifying any prospective leakage to be mended on time. If possible, after taking a shower, you can use a dehumidifier to keep the bathroom drain dry.
Clean up dirty utensils
After a meal, ensure that the dishes used are cleaned early enough before the fruit flies are lured and form a feeding habitat. Clean utensils leave no smell that can attract the flies into your home.
Even though less harmful, it is not fun having a swarm of bothersome fruit flies create a breeding ground at your home. However, you have the authority to take charge, drive them away, and free your home from infestation. Use the highlighted methods to either kill or control their existence and have a peaceful environment free from their bothersome effect.

What Do Carpenter Ants Look Like?
There are thousands of ant species in the world, but fortunately, not many of them attack homes. You might not be able to tell which type of ant is currently bothering you, and that can make it hard to remove these insects. Carpenter ants are easy to identify since they are the biggest household ants. Their lengths are between six to twelve millimeters.
Another way of differentiating carpenter ants from the others is by checking their waists. They have one node at the waist, while most other species have two. Carpenter ants also have rounded thoraxes, while other insects have unevenly shaped thoraxes.
The colors can be black or reddish of all or most of their bodies. Try to check for all these characteristics to ensure that you are not confusing a different type for these pests.
Carpenter ants do not typically fly, but you may occasionally spot one flying. Flying species arise in ant colonies that have matured, and they end up growing new colonies in other locations. A flying male carpenter ant will usually die after mating with a female, and after that, the female will become the queen of the nest.
Although certain carpenter ants have wings, you can distinguish them from termites. For one, the ants are larger than termites. These insects also have yellowish wings, while termites have white ones. The waists of ants and termites are also easy to spot since ants have distinctive waists that separate the abdomen and thorax.
Do Carpenter Ants Bite?
Carpenter ants can bite humans under certain circumstances, and it is important to learn about these possible situations to stay safe. Overall, these ants are not dangerous in the sense that they do not spread any diseases to human beings.
The one situation when carpenter ants can bite is when they feel that their nests are threatened. Just like bees, they will act in self-defense when threatened. If you try to kill them with a shoe or other object and end up missing, you may suffer some bites.
Also, if you get too close to the ants or their nests, they will bite you. You should note that these insects can also attack pets. However, you can learn how to get rid of carpenter ants in walls without getting bitten. You can contact pest removal services since they are trained to avoid attacks or perform the useful tips below by yourself.
I want to warn you that you can get attacked by large numbers of carpenter ants if you don’t know how to kill carpenter ants in house.
Carpenter bites are not very serious from a medical perspective. They will give you the sensation of a pinch and may lead to the drawing of small drops of blood. Afterward, you may get a small swelling and experience an itching sensation.
The ants are not venomous, but they leave some formic acid in the skin. This is typically not harmful to humans, but it can occasionally lead to the development of allergic reactions. If you experience such reactions, make sure to visit a doctor.
It is worth noting that you can live with carpenter ants for a long time without getting bitten, but it is advisable to get rid of these insects in case of infestation. The main thing is that you need to learn is how to control these species in your house.
What Causes Carpenter Ants and What Are Notable Carpenter Ants Damages?
All the times when I have encountered carpenter ants in a person’s home or office, it was in damp places that have aging wood. Carpenter ants usually feed on proteins and sugars that are lying in the house. These include meats, pet food, syrup, honey, jelly, and granulated seeds.
Therefore, you should keep your house clean to ensure that they are not attracted to pieces of food. These insects do not always create their nests in rooms that are next to their sources of food. This means you should not ignore the cleaning of all the rooms.
Contrary to popular opinion, carpenter ants do not eat wood and are not nearly as damaging as termites. They drill holes in furniture to make their nests. The extent of the damage caused by these insects will depend on the colony’s size and the period of staying in the property.
That is why it is advisable to get rid of them as soon as you spot them. Also, it is important to take steps to prevent the growth of their colonies since, at some point, they can be hard to eliminate.
How Do You Know if You Have Carpenter Ants?
If you spot some insects walking around your house, you may suspect you have carpenter ants. The chances of the ants being carpenter ants are higher if you live on the eastern side of the US or the southeastern side of Canada.
As all experienced professionals in the field know, carpenter ants are a lot more prevalent in these places. In this section, I will look at some signs of carpenter ants in house.
One sign that the insects crawling in your house are the carpenter ants is the appearance of wood shavings next to wooden items. As I have mentioned above, these ants do not eat wood but drill holes to make their dwellings instead.
If you see ants crawling in and out of crevices in your house, you can also conclude that you have a carpenter ant problem. The entrances to these holes are usually circular, and the insides will appear smooth.
You can also identify these ants by their faint rustling sounds, but that can be a bit challenging. I recommend checking the appearances of the ants to determine whether they match the descriptions I have offered above.
You should not ignore a case just because you have only seen a single carpenter ant. Over time, the colony will grow, and it will be a lot more difficult to control. Also, these ants do not usually go to search for food in groups. They send scout ants to find something to eat. Thus, they will only mobilize and travel as a group when they finally locate food.
Carpenter Ants: How to Get Rid Of?
I have dealt with pests on many occasions, both directly and indirectly. This experience has allowed me to learn the best ways of getting rid of carpenter ants in different environments. In this section, I will show you how to eradicate carpenter ants.
In my opinion, baiting is the most effective way of ant carpenter killing. Baiting can either be indoor or outdoor, although it would be better to combine these two methods.
For using baiting, you will need to identify an outside colony and an indoor colony. Usually, the indoor colony serves as the satellite one, and the outdoor group is the main colony. The ants will usually leave the main colony to go and search for food around the satellite one.
In this way, they will create a trail between the main and satellite colonies. The outdoor baiting method will exploit this trail to get rid of all the carpenter ants in both groups. The poison should be applied along the trails so that the ants pick it up as they move between the two colonies. You can apply the poison around the house, trees, stumps, and other places where carpenter ants appear to have set up a nest.
Indoor baiting is applied around cracks and crevices in your house where the carpenter ants are seen entering the structure. This form of baiting can especially help to prevent re-infestation in the future. You can reapply the poison regularly if you have a recurring ant problem.
I have seen many people making the mistake of using poisons that are old and mild. Carpenter ants will not fall for such baits. Such treatment usually spoils in a week and has to be replaced regularly. Similarly, if you leave food particles around the house, the carpenter ants will not fall for the indoor baiting. They will carry real foods instead.
It can be hard to determine where to place the baiting and which places to leave out. My advice to people with the ant problem is to apply the poison in as many places as possible. You should spread it in all places, which seem conducive to carpenter ants.
Some people also use sprays for carpenter ant control. For this method, you will have to locate the main colony of the carpenter ants, where the queen lives. Once you find the settlement, you will need to spray around it and along the trail of the ants.
I have seen many people going for repellent sprays in an attempt to get rid of carpenter ants inside the house. However, you should never use such sprays inside the house. This is because they will drive the ants away and will not have a major impact on the colony as a whole. Thus, you will only manage to kill a few exposed ants.
With repellent sprays, the carpenter ants will also detect that they are under attack. What usually happens in such cases is that the queen will instruct the ants to take the eggs and split as they create multiple satellite colonies. Their goal is to survive as a whole, even if some members will die.
This means that the repellent sprays will only worsen the problem as the ants become more spread out. Moreover, the queen will be prompted to breed faster to increase the chances of survival of the ants.
There are only a few ant sprays that can qualify to be non-repellent, and that is why I do not recommend the use of sprays to get rid of carpenter ants. It is also important to check whether the sprays are meant for indoor or outdoor use.
Using Insecticides
Insecticides are among the best methods of carpenter ant killing. These chemicals usually come with dangerous-sounding ingredients, but most of them are perfectly safe for household use. Some of the common ingredients used include DOT, abamectin, fipronil, and chlorfenapyr.
The only chemical on this list, which can be dangerous for humans and pets, is fipronil. Abamectin can also be toxic, but it is used in very low concentrations in carpenter ant insecticides, meaning it can’t cause any harm to humans and pets.
Insecticides can be in the form of sprays, mists, or foams. They are meant to be applied around the nests of the ants or along their trails. Some of these insecticides will even seep into the wood and discourage the ants from returning in the future.
Using Natural Remedies
If you have ever used natural remedies, you will agree with me that these are the least effective carpenter ant controls. The ants will take a long time before they disappear, so you will need to be patient. Also, there are high chances that they will not entirely disappear.
Boric acid is probably the most used natural carpenter ant treatment. But you can’t just use boric acid on its own as you should mix it with a tasty bait like sugar or honey. This acid poisons ants and damages their nervous and digestive systems.
The goal here is to make the worker ants take the bait back to their nests so that they poison the whole colony. I recommend placing the mixed bait in different parts of the house to make sure the carpenter ants pick them up.
Many people fail to understand that boric acid can still be dangerous to human beings. If you have children or pets in the house, you should avoid this bait.
An alternative option that is safer for human beings and pets is the food-grade diatomaceous earth. This is a natural powder, which will make carpenter ants dehydrated, and they will end up dying. This remedy is only dangerous to humans and pets if it is sniffed in large amounts.
I have never seen this happening, and I don’t think that such a risk is real. However, if you choose to use this remedy, make sure to be careful and go for the food-grade version and not the pool-grade one.
Before you use any carpenter ant extermination method, you should try to identify the location of the carpenter ant colony. You can spot the worker ants carrying food back into their colonies by placing baits as close as possible to the entrances of the nests.
The Best Ways of Getting Rid of Carpenter Ants in House and Walls
Now that you know the different pest control methods for carpenter ants, you are probably wondering, how do you get rid of carpenter ants in walls and around the house?
In walls
The best way of getting rid of carpenter ants in the wall is by placing baits such as the ones from Terro. This method will not just kill the ant workers but will get rid of all the ants in the nest, including the queen. This is because all the members of the nest feed on the items gathered by the ant workers. Also, the baits are usually made with the ants’ favorite foods, meaning they will naturally be attracted to the treatment.
In house
Getting rid of carpenter ants in the house will require a combination of different methods. You will need to use indoor and outdoor baiting since the main nest is usually located outside the house.
Once the indoor nests are eliminated, you can use insecticides and repellant sprays to keep carpenter ants outside the house. You can spray these chemicals along the perimeter of your house and around cracks and crevices.
How to Prevent Carpenter Ants?
Carpenter ants typically appear in the warmer seasons, so you should be the most attentive in those months. If you don’t want to bother yourself with methods of how to treat carpenter ants, you can take some actions to prevent them. Here are the methods you can use to prevent the emergence of carpenter ant colonies in your house:
Sanitize the house all the time
From my experience, carpenter ants don’t target houses that are clean and well-sanitized. They usually make nests in places with sources of food. If you leave pieces of food lying around your kitchen and living room, they will find places to build nests close to them and always be around to grab some food. Therefore, keeping your house in poor condition can also hurt your future efforts of getting rid of carpenter ants.
Correct moisture issues
Carpenter ants are attracted to moist environments, so you should make a point of fixing your plumbing, roof leaks, and other moisture problems. Leaks outside your house should also be addressed since they will lead the ants into your place. If you have any moisture-damaged wood outside your house, make sure to get rid of it as soon as possible.
Get rid of stumps that are located next to your house
These stumps serve as a bridge to your house, and they also offer carpenter ants locations for their main nests. Any tree branches that touch the exterior of your house should also be trimmed.
With this information, you should never suffer a carpenter ant infestation again. I have to mention that I strongly support baiting as the best way to get rid of carpenter ants. Ideally, you should combine indoor and outdoor baiting to get the maximum result in the shortest time.
Spraying can end up making it harder to get rid of the ants since they may get an incentive to grow their populations even faster. Moreover, carpenter ants can also spread out to different nests, making it harder to track them and get rid of these species.
Natural remedies are used in many households, but they work very slowly. It can even be hard to tell whether or not the problem is being solved.
I hope that my recommendations helped you to identify if you have carpenter ants in your house and what are the possible ways of removing them from your place.
How do you eradicate carpenter ants in your own house? Have you ever tried any of the methods mentioned in this guide? If so, please tell me about your experience and anything you may have learned in the process.
