The first reason for sugar ants to come to your house is food, of course. They can smell food inside your home through crevices and cracks of the building. When one ant finds a way to reach food, the infestation begins — only one specimen is needed to lay a scent trail for the whole nest. Spills, crumbs and food leftovers are their usual goal, the greasier and sweeter the better. Try not to leave traces of food after cooking and use vinegar when cleaning to get rid of food smells.
Like any living being, sugar ant also needs water. They may try to nest in your bathroom, if there’s enough moisture, so check your bathroom for leaks and dripping water and clean it with a disinfector. Ants may also find shelter in the walls and floors of your buildings. We’d recommend you to thoroughly look for holes and crevices of your house and to seal them with a silicone calk.
