There’s more than one way for a cockroach to get into your home. It’s well-known that roaches tend to live in the sewers because it’s dark and damp there — a perfect place for breeding. They can easily migrate between houses and apartments through drains, so even if your apartment is perfectly clean, roaches can still get to you from other tenants. Besides, there is a ventilation system, and the plumbing, and many cracks and holes in the walls of old buildings.
But don’t blame the neighbours yet! Cockroaches are so used to travelling that they can hitchhike in your bags and boxes from grocery store, work, post office or school without you even knowing. Try to inspect everything you bring home and not to take them  to the kitchen right away. Don’t store empty boxes or old newspapers at home — those are preferable places for roach nesting too.
The main reasons for cockroach infestation are covered in our article.
